Acoustic Guitar Players?

Hey Brothers, I have always had an interest to play acoustic guitar. I am wondering what kind of beginners guitar I should purchase. I have seen quite a few value packs that seem tempting but not sure if that is the right way to go any insight? I also need some form of instruction to learn how to play. I would really hate to go to Guitar Center, and get my eyes poked out.

There is no right answer to this question. It is a matter of preference. Have some teach you a G, C and D chord. God to several guitar stores and strum the three chords. Pick the guitar form the ones in your budget that sounds the best to you. My preferences are Taylor and Martin, but your ear might be different.

Talk to a guitar instructor. They have lots of experience with good and bad, expensive and cheap acoustic guitars.

I would also advise, that what ever you buy, you take it to a qualified luthier to have a proper setup. You can thank me later.

There are a lot of good brands. I picked up a super inexpensive Hohner and its great for one to beat up. You need to play it first in any case because even a Martin etc might be flawed or sound terrible (although I wouldn't expect it).

I have played a Martin D15 for 10 years. It's one of the best sounding guitars I have ever heard. (still) I have been told that many times. Depending on how long you have been playing, I would recommend something with a smaller neck. It was really hard to learn on. If you can find a smaller music store, go in talk to the guy's. They usually are not as busy and willing to help a new player. You probably will get a better deal at a bigger store but not always. If I ever get in the mood to buy another acoustic it will be a Taylor.

As far as learning how to play, look up guitar tabs. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/ it's pretty simple.(there are a bunch of sites, this is just one) You can YouTube how. Good luck.

Rays point is the most important thing to consider. My advice is this: If you have a bunch of money then you should aquire the best instrument that you can. Guitars hold their value as well as gold and guns, but know what you are buying. The only important thing, no matter what kind of guitar you buy, is that it play well. If you get a cheap guitar (a good consideration if there is a chance you will lose interest) then have someone set it up for you. Even cheap guitars can be made to play well. This is true even if you go to a big box store and buy an inexpensive student guitar. Have the store tech set it up so that it plays easily. You often hear new players brag about how they "played until their fingers bled". There is no reason for your fingers to bleed. If your instrument is comfortable to play you will be more likely to enjoy learning and stick with it.
