I am looking for the Masonic record, lodge memberships and appended bodies for Governor Robert Allan Shivers. Anyone have any info or sources?

How you tried the grand lodge of which state he was a member of?

Perhaps try a genealogical society such as the DAR?

Yes, the GL of Tx only has his blue lodge info. The DAR wouldn't have info on a 1950s governor from Texas (at least that is my guess?). I was really hoping to find out More about his Scottish Rite affiliation. I know he was a 33rd grand cross. I believe he was inspector general. I know the SR Hospital in Dallas has his name on some of the facilities. I'm just not sure where to look now.

Call the Scottish Rite in Houston and Galveston. Ask for the Grand Secretary. Are you SR? I'm interested in joining.

When I was looking for information on my grandfather's SR affiliation I contacted the archivists at the House of the Temple via the SR website http://scottishrite.org/headquarters/archives/ and they were extremely helpful.

There is a display on him at the Lee Lockwood Scottish Rite Library in Waco. When you say "I believe he was inspector general," I'm not sure what you mean. I don't think he was the SGIG in Texas, but the 33rd degree IS Inspector General. He has an entry in Denslow's "10,000 Famous Freemasons." It says that he was also Commander of Colorado Commander of Knights Templar in Austin.

I live a few miles from his former home, the Shary-Shivers Mansion.

Thank you. That gives me some places to start. Btw, I'm confused. He was higher than 33 degree. He had a white hat with a purple stripe. What is that?
