Are any of you fellows planning on going to the Feast of Tishri in Houston this month?
Which feast of Tishri is this? Tishri has Rosh Ha-shana, Sukkot, Yom Kippur, Shemini Atzeret, and Simchat Torah. Tishri is the most feast-laden of the Jewish months.
I wish I remember where I got the following material. I used it as a source in preparing my Venerable Master's talk at the beginning of last year's event. You might find it helpful:What is the feast? I am interested in joining the SR.
Because the origin and significance of the Feast of Tishri, the Rite considers it the most Scottish Rite of festivals. No other occasion epitomizes the character and purposes of the Rite to the same extent.
The event is symbolically and traditionally obligatory, a sacrifical sharing of the fraternal spirit. The dedication of the Temple of Solomon, an essential theme of the 14[SUP]th[/SUP] Degree, is celebrated in the Feast of Tishri. The details of that Temple carry intense meaning to Freemasons who are obligated to build Freemasonry, a spiritual building, in the hearts of men and among nations.
Solomon, a king of peace and wisdom, had the responsibility was well as the glory of building the
Temple. This in observing the Feast of Tishri, Scottish Rite Masons rededicate themselves to the brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God in a peaceful world.
The consecration of the Temple, also observed at the Feast, teaches equality and union among the members as the join the banquet table in an atmosphere of conviviality to share the bond of fraternal regard.
Finally, the law, legend, peace, equality, unity and
fellowship, along with sacrifice, devotion, unity and fellowship combine to make the Feast of Tishri a Masonic feast of feasts. Men of all faiths gathered around the Reflection Table join in voice of thanksgiving to God. It is a Masonic feast of
Thanksgiving where every man can express his
gratitude to Him who made all things.
The ceremony promises tyranny is temporary, darkness will yield to light, and knowledge will conquer ignorance. It teaches that God intends for all men to be free.
Through the observance of the annual celebration of the Feast of Tishri, Scottish Rite Masons continue to beautify and adorn that spiritual building, which Temple not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens.
