Candidates for the Grand South

To the members of the M.W. Grand Lodge of Texas, how would you feel about us providing a questionnaire to the various Brethren running for the Grand South, then posting their answers here? Should the Grand Lodge allow us to do that?

That's a great idea; do you need the approval of G.L.?

Nothing in the GL Bylaw's say that I do. Will GL like it? Hell no. This breaks up the cushy line of gold badges, pats on the back and publicity pictures. Just imagine electing a President even though no debates took place and you didn't know where he or she stood on the issues, only what University he attended? That would be ridiculous. Why do we accept this in Masonry? BTW, I look forward to seeing the Grand Line, at least many of them at C&TI next weekend..lol

Yep, I'd dig seeing it. Technically they are prohibited from "running" for the position. Of course, it is just chance that some of em decide to visit a bunch of the lodges known to have a regular and sizable voting presence at GL every year. Wink/nod.

As long as you maintain that little nicety in your tone and approach I don't think GL will have anything to say about it. Just approach the dudes directly, no need that I can see to let the PGMs put their thumb on the scale and make ya feel like you need to go hat in hand, and through them. Their power derives mostly from what you grant them.

I am sure there are some regulars here on MOT that would be excellent candidates for the Grand South. Why don't some of you give it some serious thought?

Our MWSA brought one of the members of the Grand South for questions and answers at their meeting, I was unable to go due to it conflicting with our Chapter and Council meetings. I can't really testify on the rigor of the questions asked, but my cynicism says none. Realize also that most candidates for the Grand South won't publicly say much for fear of alienating a section of Texas Freemasonry.
