Master's Hat

So, working as the Master in my first EA degree this week.

I need a hat recommendation (and where to find it!)

I don't do cowboy hats, they just look off on my head. I've seen bowlers and fedoras used. I was thinking about maybe a Panama?

Cowboy hats are passe, and really is way over done in this state, because you can't live in Texas without a cowboy hat (j/k). Fedoras are out of style as all get out, and while I personally like them a lot, only Frank Sinatra should be allowed to wear a Fedora, and he is dead.

I wear a Fedora now as the HP/TIM for Chapter and Council, but like you a cowboy hat looks awkward on me, so I am as well at a loss of what to do.

What about a nice newsboy cap? Maybe a felt or stiff tweed?

EDIT: I agree about the cowboy hats. I've lived in North Central Texas area my whole life and hate the cowboy stereotype.

I have a nice old Fedora and I love the thing. I have set in the East a few time for degree work and I wear mine there. Its was a gift and it feels kinda old school. I am tempted to go all out Abe when my turn in the East come. Normal is boring.

I have a 'Western Fedora' that my wife bought for me for Christmas one year from a custom hat maker. It came with a custom hat stand made out of cedar (shaped the same as my head) that keeps the shape of the hat at all times when it is used. I really enjoy wearing the hat as it fits great, no red forehead because it is too tight. I didn't realize that my head was shaped like it is until the hatmaker used the hat form on my head.

I wear a Sam Houston for degrees. I've not decided what I might wear if I am at some point honored to serve my lodge as the Master, but if that day comes it will not be a typical Cowboy hat.

FWIW, I went with a light blueish plaid fedora. I'm looking into a outback style light tan for spring/summer.
