Well guys Tuesday night I went to the local lodge and was very impressed with the men there. They were all very
welcoming. Don't know why I was so nervous. After I left with petition in hand I discussed joining with my wife one last time. She thinks this will be a wonderful experience for me. What a good woman. So I will be returning on Tuesday to turn in my petition. I will let everyone here know what happens.

Excellent. I'm glad you found a group of men with whom you click with and feel comfortable around. Keep us posted.

It is great that you have your wifes support. It will be needed. Congratulations on finding this great fraternity and the journey you are embarking upon.

I just broke up with a girl because she always asked me " why do you do that, cant you just donate money if you want to help out a cause?" or "why do you go there with those old guys, and dress up and wear weird stuff" and of course I gave her the slew of explanations as to why I do what I do, and it went from me explaining what masonry is and why we hold it up so high, to me defending it and justifying why I'm a mason. It might sound corny or self pity but I fear that I won't have that strong woman behind me like the majority of you gentlemen do. Women/girls now a days especially from my generation seem to not care about doing good works, being apart of a brotherhood, or bettering oneself. I feel that they just care about the things that matter the least. but nonetheless she saw me as a weirdo because and I quote "you don't do what any normal 26 year old does." At that point I said and I quote "peace out"

Bro Widows Son, I can relate with this experience you had. I am actually going through some of this myself in my current situation. I can only pray that it gets better, but yeah it is frustrating. :52:

Congratulations in finding a lodge and a group of men that left a good impression on you and made you feel comfortable enough to want to take that next step.

I hope everything works out for the best Ashlar. At that point, I was questioning even being a mason if that is what I was going to have to go through, but I realized that I'm not going to change who I am. I'd rather be alone the rest of my life and be a mason, than being with someone who will "chirp" me for being one.

Thanks, appreciate it. Couldn't agree with you more on that.

Good for you! I was nervous too, but when I got there, I realized there was nothing to be nervous about. Good luck with your petition!

Well said my brother.

When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

Sorry it has been so difficult for you to find someone who understands. Just a thought - perhaps a lady who is a member of a sorority would be more understanding? Who knows, maybe you should attend the next open event your local Eastern Star puts on. You never know who you are going to meet. I know one brother whose wife was an Eastern Star before he became a Mason, Lol!

In all seriousness though, in my short time as a Mason, it has become very apparent that you cannot recieve all the light without the love and support of your Family. Don't dispair, you will find the right person. As a 26 year old, you have many many years ahead of you. I wish I would have started when I was your age.

Don't worry to much Widows Son. Just when you think none of the women your age will support you in your endeavors. You will start receiving her mail and the before you know it you will have been together for 17 years. Well that's how it worked for us.

Thx brethren. But unfortunately, in Canada there aren't sororities, at least they way they are in America. Eastern star in my area is pretty much dead also. But I'm glad to hear that you guys are strong, especially in these times where separation is at a high. My ex hated my interest in the craft. See saw it as a stupid waste of time ( even though its once a month) the next girl I dated was the one I mentioned above. She was even worse. I could even talk to her about the simplest of world issues. I'm pretty sure she a cinder block for a brain, but very pretty. So far I've met only one girl who actually thought it was interesting that I'm a mason, we went on a couple dates, but we work together, and is considered a HR issue. Figures my luck.
