My name is Antonio Moore. I am a 20 year old male from South Boston, Virginia and I am very interested in joining the craft. I believe the brotherhood is a very prominent society. I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

Greetings brother. I would refer you to seek your local recognized lodge and ask for a petition for membership. Good Luck

I did, I was informed that it was predominate white lodge and more than likely I would not be granted entered apprenticeship.

Are you kidding me ! What lodge !! That goes against everything masonry stands for ! You need to file a complaint against that lodge to the grand lodge. And find a PHA lodge

Disgusting that this kind of thing still happens. More so that it happens in our fraternity.

WOW! Unbelievable! There should be no room for this kind of ignorance in our Craft, PERIOD!

My advice to you dear friend is to find another lodge. What you experienced is unacceptable behavior, but unfortunately still does happen even in this day and age. You are certainly not alone in what you experienced either to be sure. I always give the advice, "find a lodge which fits you". Clearly this one does not.
Interesting note, you are posting in the "Becoming a Prince Hall Freemason" forum, but the issue you speak of surely is not a Prince Hall Lodge. Is there a PHA lodge in your area? Which flavor of Freemasonry are you looking towards? Just curious.
Even so, that's just stupid that this happened to you. I am not from VA, so I do not know anything of the cultural climate in that area. I did look on the MWPHGLoVA website and found no list of lodge of any sort. Your best bet might be to email or call the Grand Secretary (http://www.mwphgl-va.org/contactus.html) and see if there be a lodge in your area. Good luck friend.

Maybe you want to take that as a challenge to see if Masons live up to the principles we claim to uphold? You could petition and see how they welcome you. You may well discover that person was expressing a worry about something that does not happen. I hope that would happen and I do expect that would happen but I've never attended that lodge. Depends on if you want to be a pioneer and/or martyr.

I find it strange that the PHA GL's web site does not have a lodge locator. That route has already been recommended and it is a good option. I just wanted to point out it's not really your only option.

Forward my young brother to be, ever forward each by our own path!

I agree with you dfreybur but my question is would there be a time period he would have to wait before trying a different lodge if not accepted and if so would that include PHA lodges since he is petitioning a mainstream lodge.

I know South Boston, VA is almost 3 hours from Norfolk, VA. However, I located a PHA Affiliated Lodge out in Norfolk, VA. Below is the link.

http://www.tw106.com/index.htm

Looking at their site, they seem to be an active lodge as I saw the photo gallery of recent events in the last year, 2012. I would reach out to them if I were you and have them point you in the right direction to a PHA Lodge closer to your area. Hope that helps and best of luck to you.

I been seeking also within myself and talking with a cousin of mine who I didn't know happens to be a brother, I then aske him before knowing about him in the brother hood. When I told him I'm seeking more to this life he just smiled and told me I have a calling. I am in Trinidad and tobago and I know of the grand lodge in port of Spain but I may need assistance what else to do ?

I had that experience here in Chattanooga Tn.I visited two different MS lodges and one of the guys told me that the older masons would not accept me, the next lodge told me I would be the first blk.in their lodge, and that I should try PHA, which I did and was accepted. That's just how it is here in the good ole
South..Sad to say..

That's terrible, but its sad the southern lodges are still operating this way. Goes against the craft and what it stands for.
