This is a little bit mixed up as the Home Grand Lodges only share "territory" in their Districts (that is outside of the UK), here in the UK the Home Grand Lodges may not Warrant Lodges in the territory of the others. IE there are no English Lodges in Ireland they are all under the Grand Lodge...
If you have a look at the Topic called "Moving to England" it will help as it is pretty well the same up North. However as mentioned above it is Masonic protocol when travelling abroad to contact your own Grand Secretary for guidance first.
Sorry to be a stick in the mud here Gents but has the new Iraq Government declared that Freemasonry is no longer an illegal association within its borders? Freemasonry has been an illegal activity in Iraq since 1958.
As I am sure you all know, no regular Grand Lodge will have communications...
I think a lot of Freemasons assume that our Masonic Chivalric Orders are the only ones out there paying homage to the original "Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of King Solomon" (nowadays shortened to Knights Templar) there are many Orders that have no link to Freemasonry at all...
Gents, he will have been Raised by the time he comes to England.
However it is worth highlighting that English Masons only usually buy their Master Mason apron, as the EA and FC ones are normally loaned to them by the Lodge as they will only be at those Degrees for a relatively short time...
It seems to me that the original question just shows that the people involved have not noticed or not realised that the different spellings means that they are different words.
As to the Pronunciation, here in England different versions of the Ceremonies use one or other of the 2 possible...
It would not make any difference and would ONLY become relevant if you specifically wished to attend a meeting of a Royal Arch Chapter, as I said these are quite separate from Lodge meetings.
I think it would help if I point out that only around 40% of all English Masons actually join an...
As i said we have those degrees but they have not been formed into a progression or single body (as the americans have done) they are as they were at the beginning of their existences separate and distinct orders and degrees. Although over the last few years many of them come under the single...
Freemasonry in Egypt was previously organised under District Grand Lodges of Scotland and England until 1964 when Freemasonry was sadly outlawed in Egypt and these English and Scottish Lodges went dark. If the government had repealed its previous laws it is very likely that the first move of any...
Hi John,
Absolutely no need to play secret squirrel with this question as it is very straight-forward.
The rumours about what degree you must have (repeated above) are completely untrue! English Lodges carry out the majority of their work in the First Degree and we will welcome a visiting...
Hi Liam,
The first problem that you're going to have is that you've chosen to join a Forum in America rather than one of the english ones that you could have picked and there are some differences about how Freemasonry works in different countries in the same way that the english language is used...
Here in England, we realised that our Freemasons' Hall (London) needed to be as self supporting as possible, which is why if any of you have ever watched:
the UK TV programmes: Spooks, Poirot and Foyle's War, the Films, Green Zone (Matt Damon), Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy (John...
Re: What is "within Freemasonry"
Then you actually mean he tried to go to a Chapter meeting not a Lodge one. As I said earlier and repeat any Master Mason who is from a recognised Lodge may sit in an English Craft Lodge (we do not call them blue). However Chapters are only open to RA...
I'm just going to chuck a bit of "English" into this for you all as I think it may just give a bit of an all-round view that you may not necessarily get in the States.
When the first Grand Lodge in the World started in 1717 Freemasonry consisted of two Degrees (Apprentice and Fellow) topped off...
I would suggest that before people take sides they should read back through the exchanges before jumping to the conclusion that the last person shouting is being any more truthful than the other people involved.
I have them both in my Library and have obviously read them both. They are very english books based as they are on the way that Freemasonry works here and specifically the Emulation version of the Ceremonies.
Here are links to reviews I have done of them elsewhere:
