Good Day

My late grandfather was a mason in South Africa, I live in Dubai.

I would like to find out more about what it means to become a mason, is there someone in Dubai that i could talk to.

I believe that for the most part Freemasonry is still prohibited in the UAE. I know of one military Lodge operated by the MWPHGL of OK there but unless you have regular access to US military installation that would not be an option. And I have heard of at least one clandestine (not formed by a recognized authority) organization there calling itself Freemasonry. So be careful of anyone claiming to be one. Your best option would be to relocate to a country there that allows Freemasonry like Lebanon or Israel.

If you are living in Dubai you will likely not be able to join until you move to a country that is more friendly towards Freemasonry.
