We are taught in Masonary that light is knowledge. We recieve this knowledge from the Great Light in Masonary. That we take as the ruling guide to our faith and practices.

Increased awareness of what was always present, but unseen.
    The red pill.

The blue pill represents the blue lodge and the red pill the pill well you know the rest ;) Neo(phyte) falling in love with "trinity"....... It is worthy of closer examination.

By scientific definition darkness is the absence of light.... Perhaps this can be paralled to mean that one who did not have light had an absence of masonry in his life.. so I feel that the introduction of light is the beginning or birth of a mason..

    bingo.

we actually break it into three steps:

    Ignorance, Knowledge, then Wisdom.

If you look at the pillars of the lodge: Beauty, Strength, and Wisdom, they are very much represented by the JW, SW, and WM, and also by the 3 degrees.

    Ignorance is Bliss.
    Knowledge is Strength.
    Experience is Wisdom.

Plum, Level, and Square. They are the symbols belonging to the wardens and are representative of the 3 stages of light and Freemasonry. The manner of reception into the lodge is also representative of the 3 stages of light (a) Learn how to control yourself, b) apply that knowledge, c) master that knowledge).

But there you go, that's only my interpretation after light* study and contemplation of the degrees. Of course, everyone interprets it for themselves, and either way, this is in no way an exhaustive explanation of how I see it.

*not the "masonic" light, but the "i didn't study very hard" kind of "light study"

A progression from ignorant to informed; course to refined; incompetent to adept. It's an analogy for all of our life's pursuits.

it's also why the rough ashlar is put at the JW's station, and the perfect ashlar at the SW's station.

to me it is the fact that I was in the dark, wondering around in life aimlessly. Now I have light so I have a purpose, to help mankind by making myself better.
