I am new to the forum but have been a Mason for twenty or so years, I am a Senior Warden
I have been disapointed with what I feel is the erosion of many masons. I took and take my obligations to heart but frequently hear comments that make me feel that many do not. Am I alone in this quandry? I applaud the actions of our Grand Master here in Texas but am faced with open defience by some who state that they would rather quit than abide by his edicts, I am to go into the east next year and do not know what I should do, do I alianate my lodge brothers or stand by while a Grand Lodge edict is ignored?

Tough call, but I would have to go with supporting the Grand Master.

If we turn away from the Grand Lodge, then what are we? We MUST suport our Grand Master.

What GM edicts do they disagree with? Not that it makes a difference- the WM is supposed to lead & set an example for the Brethren. I was just curious.

There is only one Mason higher than the Master and that is the Grand Master. DDGM are only extensions of the GM. It is your job to see the lodge abides by the rules and regulations of your jurisdiction. There is no lodge bigger than the jurisdiction and no Brother bigger than the fraternity.

Think sometime the Grandmasters mix up the differance between God and Grandmaster of Masons.. ! and if brothern don't agree with the Grandlodge law then get involved and change it.. ! I think there are a lot of changes that brother don't agree with.. ! and your right .. most of the ones that I have heard come for the Certification of the Officers.. ! and most of the disagreement comes from the fact that a lodge votes someone to be a officer in their lodge and has to receive conformation from committee on work..? I don't understand why they should have to open and close a EA.. FC or Lodge of Sorrow...? the Worshipful Master doesn't have to address these lodges during the conducting business in the MM lodge...? this is work was invented by the Committee on work in the last few years.. ! The Master of the Lodge can open the MM lodge, call off and turn it over to a degree team..? you don't ever need to open a Lodge of Sorrow if you open lodge before a funeral and close it after... ! we went for years and never opened a Lodge of Sorrow.. ?

Gotta call you on this, Bro. Jack- all the things you are disagreeing with were voted on & approved by the Grand West. NONE of them were "imposed" by the Grand Master.

you missed the point .. ! I said if you don't agree with grand lodge law get involved and change it.. ! show up at grandlodge and vote.. ! I agree it was not "imposed" by the Grand Master but it was one of the Grand Masters proposals.. !

Don't think this will make or brake masonary in the state.. ! and I think like all Grand Masters this too will pass.. ! and we will get back to being Masons'.. ! We have a lot of problems that need to be addressed.. ! the money issue is more important.. ! how we handle the endowment fund..?

This is not the first time this has come up and I think it will prove to be unworkable, as it did in the past, and in the near furture will take care of itself.. !

It is human to sometimes have opposing opinions, so we may not always agree with the GL or GM -- but we DO take a voluntary obligation to follow the direction of the GLoT. One who does not is violating that obligation.

If one is going to openly and intentionally violate one aspect of their obligation simply because it's difficult or uncomfortable, what's to stop them from doing the same with others? Perhaps these brothers SHOULD quit...

This isn't to say there's anything wrong with working to change edicts that one disagrees with -- but until they're changed, we're obligated to follow them.

Don't be disapointed.. ! I have also been a Mason for years and have seen this come and go.. ! don't let a discussion of opposing opinions discorage you from having a good year as worshipful Master of your lodge.. ! as worshipful Master you lodge will feed off of your attitude. so always work for the good of the craft.. ! we will never be of one mind.. ! and we should always express our opinion in lodge because it should be one place you stand on the level with others and your opinion should never tempered by others who hold some office. but we should never violate grand lodge law or gang up on others to drive them out because they don't believe the same as you. we should always work for the good of the craft and encorage bothern to work within the system to change it if they don't agree.. ? they may be surprised there might just be a bunch of brothern who agree with them and vote with them at grand lodge to right what ever they feel is wrong...?

Brother Cale, change is a rough and rugged road. I believe any Grand Lodge law should be held at all cost as these are the laws the majority of Masons in Texas wanted and if we just pick and choose as we do now chaos soon ensues. Sometimes laws are out of balance from our preceptive but if we all give it a whole hearted effort anything we do will work.
