If might isn't always right, when is it?

When I was a child, I always heard adults around me say that "might isn't always right." You can even find it in some movies these days. By saying this, they are inferring that might is sometimes right. I'm no pacifist, but I'd prefer to avoid violence if possible.

well, if i remember correctly, any time i used might it was wrong, but any time my parents used might, they were right.

so, it just depends on who is the parent.
