Masonic Historical Marker Dedication for Ira Ingram - Matagorda

On Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 a Masonic historical marker will be dedicated at the gravesite of Ira Ingram. A representation of the Grand Lodge will be opened at noon at Matagorda Lodge No. 7, 800 Fisher Street, Matagorda, TX. The dedication ceremony will be conducted at the Matagorda Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

Was one of the original “300” settlers.



Signed the dispensation to start a Masonic Lodge at San Felipe de Austin from the York Grand Lodge of Mexico, February 11, 1828.

Wrote the Goliad Declaration of Independence, December 20, 1835.

Was the First Speaker of the House for the Republic of Texas and administered the Oath of Office to the first elected government which included Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Mirabeau B. Lamar and others on October 22, 1836 at Columbia.

Holland Lodge No. 36 UD met at the courthouse in Brazoria for the first time, December 27, 1835, Saint John’s Day, 175 years ago.
