    Mnemonic methods are a part of the study of rhetoric. Used to memorize speeches lectures with applicability to very many other fields as well.

    A mnemonic is just a "memory device". Something to help you remember something. Much like ROY-G-BIV to remember the rainbow colors or "my dear aunt Sally" for math order of operations.

    Frances Yates book "The Art Of Memory" is all about mnemonics in the Renaissance. Fascinating!

    I haven't heard of a cipher book in Kentucky. Will check into this.
