On Saturday March 3rd my son and I were dubbed Knights of the Valiant and Magnanimous Order of the Temple. Wow what a cool experience made even better because my son and I did it together. March 3rd was the 2nd day of the 2-day Tri-State Festival, day one was in Bryan, OH, and day two was in Angola, IN.

I still don't have all of the terminology down, I'm sure that is going to take a while. There were York Rite groups from Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan participating in the festival.

There is so much stuff floating around my head that I am going to have to see these degrees again several times before it starts to make sense.

Congrats Sir Knight! Don't worry none of us have all of the terms down.

Thank you, I thought Scottish Rite was hard to grasp but York Rite is going to take some time to figure out.

While the Scottish Rite had different bodies they are still part of a unified rite. The York Rite isn't a rite*. It is a group of three (in most cases) independent groups that align themselves for, hopefully, mutual benefit.

*I'm sure I'm not saying anything you don't already know. But posting for the benefit of discussion and visitors.

Actually that is helpful because I couldn't figure out if each group was a stepping stone, meaning one lead to the next and finally to the top but now that makes sense.

Thank you Sir Knight Matt. We went to our first meeting Wednesday. Things were in a little bit of disarray. One of our Sir Knights had passed on Monday, he was a past Grand Commander I think (Still new to me). He had been in fraternity for 40 years. So there weren't many Sir Knights at the meeting. We'll have to see what happens over the next couple of months.

I envy you these first few meetings and rituals. They are wonderful new experiences. As I have stated before, I really like the Scottish Rite but I love the York Rite.

I love the way York Rite filled in the gaps of the main degrees and how it coordinated with some of the Scottish Rite degrees.

I sense some internal struggles in our York Rite bodies but I still haven't identified exactly what is going on.

    Same here.
Do you mean nationally or on the state level? I have not noticed anything like that in Kentucky.

No, it is at the local level. I just need to sit back and observe the players. You know how you can read between the lines when people talk and what they don't say almost says more than what they are saying? I'm not sure that makes sense or maybe it's just my unfamiliarity with everything. I probably shouldn't have said anything.

The head of our local Commandery (sorry I still don't know the titles yet) offered me a position in the officer's line but I just didn't feel ready for that. I'm concentrating on Blue Lodge as I'll have a couple of busy years coming up if things go well.
