    Why rush through so fast?

NM also has a one-year rule, one I personally dislike. A young friend of mine is going to school out-of-state, and so is only able to work within the Lodge during his vacations. He told me that he really likes being able to ponder the lessons of the Degree, and take his time studying his Proficiency.
I find it rather ridiculous that we have to request a waiver from Grand Lodge to keep him from being dropped because he hasn't been Raised yet.

I would have had zero issues staying an EA and an FC for longer amounts of time if Lodges in the States opened on the First Degree along with dues and the right to vote.

What do you mean 'dropped'? Does he have to re-apply for affiliation or take the degrees over?

Isn't this how it's done in many parts of the world? I'd be open to the idea but we'd also have to guard our west gates more carefully.

Brother Jones, I've seen EAs face the choice of having to get their FC and MM slammed in one afternoon, or be expelled from Freemasonry, because they hadn't been Raised within a one-year period. Special dispensations have to be requested for a Brother to take longer to reach the Third.

Brother Steve; NM opens Lodge in any of the Degrees, depending on the Masons present. The only exception is when there is specific Work to be done. Voting rights are still limited to Master Masons.

Most of the jurisdictions in the US are now back to the worldwide standard of conducting business meetings in the first degree. Some use the men in attendance to decide which degree to open on - I rather like this rule as it keeps the line in better practice.

Now it's time to address the wordwide standard of declaring EAs and FCs "members" or whatever term you like. They are brothers so charge them dues and give them a vote in money matters. I am on the fence whether EAs or FCs should participate in the ballot but I am convinced they should be charged dues and have a vote on money matters.

I live in NJ, got my EA May 24th, got my FC August 10th, and I'm getting raised September 13th. We also have the One Day Classes where men can get all 3 degrees in one day, which I hate the idea of.

In UGLE we have a min 4 week rule, between degrees , but most brethren take their own time to take the next step.

I had a really large gap between my FC and my MM degrees, had some family and medical issues that delayed everything. But I still went to several EA and FC degrees and you will ALWAYS catch something that you missed. And always enjoy it more and more. I find that the more you give. You get SO much more out of this fraternity. So many great men that i proud to call brother. Going to lodge in illinois this monday with my Grandfather in-law. Who is a 50+ year MM/shriner/SR. cant wait!
