Does anyone know of a person that has lived in the Scottish Rite Dorm in Austin? I would like to know what the girls think of it.

I had no idea such a thing existed. And the rates are only a little bit higher than my non-air dorm at A&M 15 years ago ;)

Yea, I was going to ask the same thing. I know that my daughter is only 9 and I have a while to wait, but she wants to go to UT and as soon as I had heard about the dorm, I automatically started day dreaming of her being able to stay there...lol Does anyone have any clue how much it costs to stay there? Also, is there usually a long waiting line to get in there?

My daughter is at A&M. If what I am paying is a guide, the SRD is not that expensive considering it is room and board. It looks really nice.

I have several friends and relatives who have lived at SRD over the years. All of them speak fondly of the time they spent there. Have a cousin who hopes to enroll at UT in the fall and she is thinking about living at the SRD.

The history section on the website says "In 1920, Samuel P. Cochran, the Executive Head of the Scottish Rite Masonry in Texas, recognized that there was a lack of suitable housing for young women who were attending The University of Texas. He asked the Scottish Rite Bodies in Texas to donate the necessary funds to build a dormitory. In 1922, the dormitory opened the doors to its present building. It is a gift of Scottish Rite Masons in tribute to, and in interest of, aspiring young women."

I just found the SRD reading on another issue and thought it was cool. I came here to post on it but searched first and found this thread (and another)....

I've never heard of the SRD before, but thinking on it, you would expect there to be others; masons banding together to give young woman, no doubt including their own daughters, a safe and nice place to study and stay. I assume among Texan Freemasons, the SRD is known quite well ?
