Does anyone know if masonic daggers are appropriate for the first degree or does it have to a closef compass?

    It probably varies by jurisdiction.

I've only seen the point of a compass used in Kentucky.

Same here. That being said, in the EA degree, at least in Texas, the compass isn't mentioned but only "a sharp instrument".
