Brethren, My best friend and brother Mason is swearing into the Air Force. He will be going to Sheppard Air Force base in Wichita Falls, Tx. I wanted to give him a going away gift and get him a list of contact info of Brethren who are on the base, to make him feel comfortable and at home. Contact info will be greatly appreciated, if their is a way to private message me your info that would be greatly appreciated. SMIB.

Sheppard is a training base and not typically someone's first assignment, although possible. Is your friend getting stationed there or getting trained to go somewhere else?

Not any more. That was 40 years ago. There are several lodges in town. None on base as far as I know. Military lodges are kind of rare because the government will not fund building repairs and such. The old lodge at Ft Leavenworth has been kept up by the members.

How can I find out if their are any brethren that are on base?

Hmmmm. By simple number, with that many airmen stationed there, you know there must be a considerable number of Masons too. Try this. Contact the Grand Secretary of Texas and get the name of some local lodges in the Wichita Falls area and get the names for the local lodge Secretary. Contact them and see if they can come up with a name of someone stationed at SAFB, then go from there. You could try the Chaplain's office on SAFB, but unless the Chaplain is himself a Mason, that may not go far.

Check out the Grand Lodge of Texas website. There are lodges that meet on military bases. John A Lejeune memorial lodge meets on Quantico Marine base, VA. I doubt if there is a working lodge on Sheppard, but there are certainly lodges in Wichita Falls, and in the surrounding communities.

Brethren, those of you who are either at Lackland Air Force base or Sheppard, if you happen to run into Brother Matthew Jabob Escareno take some time to visit with him. He's a good man, a good mason, and soon to be a good airman.

Let me know where his first assignment will be. Maybe he comes out here to Japan.

If things haven't changed at Lackland he will get a Saturday to go to the river walk at graduation. At Shepard, after about 6-8 weeks he will be in phase 3 and can leave base but can have visitors anytime.
