The Faithful Few

427650_10150648398507232_428262452_n.jpg

When the Master calls to order
And you look about the room
You're sure to see some faces
That from the shadows loom;

They are always at the meetings
And Stay till they are through;
The ones that I would mention
Are the Always Faithful Few

They fill the vacant offices
As they are always on the spot,
No matter what the weather
Though it may be awful hot.

It may be dark and rainy,
But they are tried and true;
The ones that you rely on
Are the Always Faithful Few.

There are may worthy members
Who will come when in the mood,
When everything's convenient
They can do the Craft much good;

They have knelt around our altar
And are necessary, too;
But the ones who never fail us
Are the Always Faithful Few.

If it were not for these Brothers
Who put their shoulders to the wheel,
And keep our Lodges moving forward
So their light they may reveal,

The Craft could never flourish,
Its work it could not do,
It would shrink and slowly perish
But for these Faithful Few.

So I am diggin on this poem and as to its source... i was used in 1986 newsletter and described as from an Elks Lodge Mag, April 1984, then from kiwan-o-gram-1975-05

Anyway,as an aside, I've never heard of the Kiwanis- they are some charitable group working with kids.. naturally the top result in youtube links them to "the freemasons" and is titled "Kiwanis Sodomy Secret" - usual music etc one expects from this sort of video...

It seems a sad poem - documenting the end of an era.

Sooo negative my brother. I very much disagree. It pays homage to the faithful few - which we've needed every generation. I am one of them. And I see young (<35 years old) MMs and PMs who are as well. The only reason Freemasonry has survived is because every generation has its "faithful few", the trick is finding the next group of "faithful few" and be willing to hand the lodge to them. If it is sad, perhaps it is because you are failing in that.

Are you a PM James ?

Several times through various chairs.

Just a couple of weeks ago I was at a lodge that has decided to hand in its charter.

Sorry to read that , it always brings a brother down... but Freemasonry is a living breathing enity: lodges come and go (albeit not at the same rate at the moment). You're not in a city are you James, being in a country town can make rebuilding lodges tough.... but the faithful few is a foundation on which to build.
