TOLEDO, Ohio (April 22, 2010) – The former Toledo Masonic Center on Heatherdowns Boulevard in Toledo will sell at auction Tuesday, June 1, along with 29 acres of surrounding land, according to Schrader Real Estate & Auction Company.

"In keeping with nationwide trends, the Masonic lodges that used the facility had a net loss in membership over the past few decades and no longer needed that much space," said Gary McElfresh, executive secretary to the Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, which owns the building.

The Masonic Center on four acres will sell to the highest bidder at or above $100,000. "We decided to sell the building on four acres at an extremely low minimum bid of $100,000 to show that we're serious about selling this property on the auction day," said McElfresh.

The two-story, 54,000-square-foot building, which was home to the Masons from 1969 until 2007, has several large meeting and ballroom areas, a large commercial kitchen, and offices. "The Masonic Center has been well maintained and is in very good condition. It's suitable for a wide range of uses, including convention center, mini-mall, church or supper club," said Rex Schrader, president of the auction company.

The sale will also include five additional tracts ranging from two acres to nine acres. The entire property has 417 parking spaces. Four of the tracts have frontage on Heathersdown Boulevard, with one eight-acre parcel fronting on Cass Road. The property adjoins I 80/90 with excellent visibility, according to Schrader.

"We could have a single buyer for the entire 29 acres and improvements, or we could have six different buyers, because bidders will be able to make offers on any combination of tracts. This allows each bidder to bid on just the property that suits his or her needs," said Schrader.

The auction will be held on site, and real estate previews will be held Tuesday, May 4, and Thursday, May 20. Individuals seeking additional information may contact Schrader at (260) 244-7606 or visit www.schraderauction.com.
