Hello Brethren. Can someone elaborate on why it is necessary to have a volume of sacred law in lodge.

G-d is at the center of everything we do and so the rule and guides of our faith is centrally located in our sanctum sanctorums when we meet. What does your jurisdiction say about it? The placement and reason for the open VSL is part of our lectures. Does yours say anything on the subject?

As a side note, what VSL is open when you meet? We have the New Testament, Torah, and Koran open on our altar when we open.

Many jurisdictions in India require 5 VSLs upon the altar. They are the Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita for Hindus, the Guru Granth Sahib for Sikhs, the Zend Avesta for Zoroastrians, the Bible for Christians, and the Quran for Muslims. More can be added but these 5 are required. The VSL corresponding to the faith of the WM is centered.

It generally is required in English-speaking lodges but not in French. French brethren seem to think that it is possible to relate to spiritual matters without having culturally-specific religious texts in the lodge. Who would have thought that possible?

That depends. GLNF has VSLs and GOdF used to have them.

Apparently some of the French.
