I don't know anyone in Tyler itself, but have family in Longview not too far from there. I'm sure there are brethren on here that know some Tyler masons (esp since this was originally the Masons of Texas forum before Myfreemasonry, hah)

Congratulations, Brother, both on your upcoming raising and your move to the Republic of Texas! You will find this place an oasis of productive opportunity. As long as you're not trying to bring wrong-headed Kalifornia ideas here, you'll be welcomed with open arms by both Brothers and non-brothers alike.

We get a LOT of folks moving here who are escaping the oppressive, collectivist hell hole that is Kalifornian only to try to implement those same freedom-destroying ideas here in the Lone Star State. As long as you stay true to the Masonic ideals of friendship, brotherly love, relief, Truth, freedom of thought, etc., you'll love it here.

It's important to remember that freedom is not a political issue, although it has been co-opted by our two corrupt political parties. I know plenty of Democrats here in Texas who are NOT interested in subjugating their fellow Texans, stealing from one group of people to give to another, and restricting the liberty of peaceable citizens. And I know plenty of Republicans who oppose freedom of thought and actions want to enforce their beliefs with the guns of big government.

Like I said, freedom is not political and if you will seek Light in all your undertakings, you will make the world a better place, which is what we are called here to do.

So, preparing for your move to Texas, check out the Grand Lodge of Texas website. They have a Lodge locator there. Since you are governed by a foreign Masonic jurisdiction, any official Masonic communication will need to be conducted through the proper channels. I believe your Lodge will need to coordinate your affiliation to a Tyler Lodge by going through the Grand Lodges of both California and Texas.

All the best in you move, Brother. Please let us know when you arrive in the great State of Texas.

Sincerely and fraternally,
Jason Attas

Thank you for all the info. And I'm not like most Californians. I live in the mountains of California closer to Nevada. Trust me I won't be brining any wrong headed ideas and thoughts over there. Im a mountain boy. So my views are more like Texas. We will be moving in the next year we are hoping. I'll have to talk to some people and see about all the masonic info about the transfer of the two states.

Yeah there is a photo I'll carry with me when people say I'm from California and think I'm a beach surfer hippie boy I'll show them the photo I have attached. That's the perfect explanation for me haha

So I now found out I am moving in October to Texas. Half my company is getting laid off so we are moving sooner. My question is do you think I can become a master mason before then? World is be weird to get the first two degrees here and then get raised in Texas? I want to get raised here though

It's not weird, tho like you said it would be nice to get all your degrees there. Depends on when your initiation is. It would be close, but it's doable.

It is fairly common in California to take all three degrees a month apart from each other. In California the third degree proficiency has been optional for a long time unless you get installed into an elected chair, but you will want to learn and present yours anyways as it is required here in Texas.

No it is not weird to get any of your degrees "by courtesy". There's extra paperwork involved but it happens all the time.

Thank you. Yeah I heard it doesn't take too long to get them here

As to the OP, I grew up in Whitehouse, which is just outside Tyler, and was a member of Tyler DeMolay Chapter. There are two Lodges actually in Tyler, St. John's Lodge No. 53 (where my Dad and I were raised and he was Master) and Tyler Lodge No. 1233 (where the DeMolay Chapter met). There are also Lodges in several of the surrounding communities (Whitehouse, Lindale, Winona, Arp, Troup, Bullard, etc.). If you tell me exactly where you're moving to, I can let you know where the closest Lodge is.

Also, Tyler has active York Rite Bodies and a Shrine, as well as a Scottish Rite Club (most of the Tyler Scottish Rite Masons are members either here in Waco or in Dallas).
