York Rite Question

Membership Numbers in my YR bodies (we have 3 different YR bodies in my district alone so the membership numbers will seem low)

Chapter : 128
Council : 128
Commandery : 116

I know of two members reasons for not being in the Commandery ... one member is Jewish and another believes the stories of the Templars of old spitting on the Cross and other myths so wants no part of the Masonic Templars .

Very strange, but I guess whatever floats your goat...

Some people have weird ideas about things , not much we can do to change their minds . I chatted with a buddy from the other Commandery in my district and their membership number is even lower than ours and he states the biggest reason as told to him is because those ugly and expensive chapeaus/uniforms . No one wants to purchase them just to be an officer , I know I wouldn't .

How many brothers join Chapter and Council and NOT Commandery? Ballpark figures invited.
Is this possible in Texas? Thanks in advance.

I would put the estimate at about 2/3 complete the Commandery Orders while 1/3 do not. It is not unusual and every companion makes his own decisions as to their masonic path.

Yep. I don't care about the price so much as how absurd the uniforms look however. All the marching around to open a Commandry seems goofy also. If you want to march then form a drill team or something, no need for all that just to open up.

If worn correctly the dress uniform is very impressive. The Cap & Mantle is just as nice. The history of the Templar Uniform is pretty interesting though

In Idaho we shortened and simplified the opening ceremony down so there wasn't so much useless marching.

I find it very difficult to do the sword movements with the mantle. It also interferes with a couple of other sections of the opening as well. They do look okay, but I find the mantle's functionality very dubious.

Agree, the Mantle makes life awkward at best, clumsy at its worse. The Military is constantly reviewing its uniforms for form and function. The KT need to do the same thing and just make up its collective mind. Nothing is worse than going to a field day and half the men are in uniform and half are in the cap and mantle.
