Allied Masonic Degrees

Having joined the York Rite last month, the Secretary** of my local Bodies has taken a keen interest in my fervency and zeal and has extended to me an invitation to join the Allied Masonic Degrees. Does anyone have any experience with it? Since I'm interested in the historical and esoteric aspects of Masonry, it seems like something I'm really going to enjoy.

**In NC, the York Rite is combined, not split into 3 autonomous bodies

Yes...you should join if you are active and interested in esoteric, lessons, and history of Masonry. It was chartered in the late 19th Century to govern Degrees that were Masonic, but had no home or organized Rite. The Royal Ark Mariner, Saint Lawrence the Martyr, Secret Monitor, and others are included. Membership is invitational only and limited to 27 members a Council (sound symbolic?).

I whole heartedly concur with Scialytic. The AMD has a lot to offer the active York Rite Mason. I have enjoyed every moment that I get with my local group!

And as previously mentioned, the AMD is invitation only and is seldom offered twice!! I say go for it I you have time... But, don't let it interfere with your commitments to your local Lodge and YR!

You should absolutely accept. As Bro. Stewart says it is a rare invitation. In fact I'd almost go as far saying that it is unheard of for someone to be invited after only having been in the York rite for a month, but if you can get your foot through the door go for it. It is definitely one of the interesting invitational bodies.

Yeah. Think of it this way: way back when, there were a lot more degrees floating around not under a single rite conferred by various lodges. Once the York Rite and Scottish Rite structures were completely solidified, it left some of these other degrees "orphaned" without any body to confer them. Hence they've been put under the umbrella of the AMDs.

I just joined this forum, the AMD is a great body but is limited to 27 members per Chapter and by invitation only. Our Chapter meets 4 times per year in conjunction with York Rite College. You may want to look into Knight Masons this body is invitational but not limited.
