Another expense to be passed on to the lodges.... someone would have to pay for its property and operations and that would inevitably be passed on the the lodges through higher per-capita, new fees and so forth. Plus the things brothers have already mentioned...

Congrats! I'd recommend getting your ritual opening and closing down quickly and participate in the conferral of the degrees! As in lodge, the companions follow strong leaders! One other thing, you might want to learn and practice opening with five- when I was a DDGHP I discovered that not...
If you're considering York Rite, I would recommend working in the Blue Lodge and participating on the degree teams for a year or so. It's not required in my jurisdiction, but the degrees will mean more if you're very familiar with the first three degrees. Just a recommendation. Good luck!

Greetings! I was born in Md- born in Hyattsville, grew up in Beltsville. My dad's lodge was in Chillum Adelphi at the time but merged with Vansville. Don't know if you have heard of any of those places, but they're not terribly far from Glen Burnie. I did 3 years at Ft. Meade back in the 80's...
It is a Masonic Offense to reveal the names of members present at the ballot to a rejected candidate (art 506 #19) or inquire into the ballot upon any petition (art 506 #18)- be very careful in your discussions

Brethren, I'll be traveling in Omaha (in Bellevue), Nebraska on 10 and 11 March. Are there any lodges, or York Rite Chapters or Councils meeting on either of those nights?

I am hopeful for the future.. I suppose I'm colored something chameleon-ish, cynical and hopeful... maybe I'm actually a mood ring!
So far everything I read of the TOL and tradition observance in general seems reasonable, but I do understand the "we've never done it that way" culture is firmly...
Typically, if a man has made the decision to petition for the degrees, I recommend he stop reading and stop researching on the internet. My concern is that the candidate will read something that will distract him during the degree and during his proficiency lessons. If a candidate has something...
I just read "Observing the Craft" and I've just started "A Traditional Observance Lodge" and I'm fascinated with the difference between where we are today (in Texas) and where the TOL is. There are definitely things I'd like to see come in through changes to the Grand Lodge law.

A glimmer of light:
Title: AmericanIndian Freemasonry
Author: ArthurCaswell Parker
Coming in at 36pages, this book (almost a pamphlet) presents a fascinating discussion centeredon a sacred ceremony of the Senecas. Because it is so short, there is not muchI can say in a review of the book...
I've completed another book in my quest for light:
Observing the Craft
By: Andrew Hammer
A good book thatshould not be confused with another book titled "A Traditional ObservanceLodge" by Cliff Porter. While thisbook touches on the Traditional Observance Lodge (TOL), it is not the soul...
Two things.....
1. Learn both the questions and answers and
2. Try to sit in and watch one or two EA degrees- with your instructor if possible

I see what you mean with your edit, it's what we try to impress upon the curious- our York and Scottish Rite degrees are not higher than that of Master Mason, but they are additional; and in the case of the York Rite in Texas, they add additional light to the lessons of the first three degrees...
York and Scottish Rite confer additional degrees, not "higher". York Rite and Scottish Rite are composed of Masonic bodies and as such are authorized to meet in Masonic Lodges to conduct business. The Grand High Priest (Chapter), Grand Master (Council), and Grand Commander (Commandery) are in...
