    York Rite/ Scottish Rite

"It's coming along well but it feels extremely slow lol. I met last week at the lodge with my cousin (not during a meeting day) and we talked and filled out the application form and the WM and the Secretary were both present and vouched for us on our applications. I must admit, it felt great...

    Royal and Select Masters.

Last night was our first meeting after going dark for July and August. During refreshment one of my brothers gave me a petition for the Royal and Select Masters, which I happily signed. It will be read during their October meeting and I will probably be investigated in that month. I will be...

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

"I would not start with Darwin. Far too dated. Start with Mayr." • Ill check it out thanks. In college I took a sci-if course that looked at fiction that was influenced by the theories Darwin put forth so we started by reading Origin of Species.

    York Rite/ Scottish Rite

In Ontario we either share with other York bodies and blue lodges or have our own chapter buildings, though rare to see. KJohnson, how's the petitioning coming along? We need to visit!

    Aprons

"Seriously? I'm thinking of Cinderella's ugly step-sisters trying to stuff their huge feet into the petite glass slipper - some things just don't fit. I've read about analogies of the descent of spirit into matter, geometrical significances, and controlling passions, but androgyny? Reflections...

    Aprons

As Bro Anthony Mongelli wrote in his book the craftsman symbology, the wearing of the apron symbolizes androgyny, especially where we are in the lodge when we receive the apron. I recommend his book to all Masons.

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

I'd say reading Darwin would be good way to get a good foundation of the subject. As other brothers have said though, it should be the only material read on the subject.

    Aprons

I think it has to do with the style of dress. Most tuxedos with coattails have a broader jacket, and its usually with this attire that I see aprons under the jacket, with it unbuttoned.

Two Scariest Lies in Our World Right Now

If we are not good, then what about the Masonic requirement of being a good man prior to becoming a better one? Does this no longer apply since no matter what we do, we are ultimately still bad?

    The widows son.

From the webpage A Beacon of Masonic Light: "The widow may symbolize a separation of the material world to that of the spiritual Father. The widows son, the Hiram of Masonic allegory, therefore, symbolizes our human physical nature bound to the mother (creation/material) after the symbolic...

    Persecution of Christians--real persecution.

"With respect, "God's law" has no place in secular society. None. Your "God's law" is not mine, and neither of ours is the same as our neighbors'. " • forgive me for implying that. I should have phased that a bit better. The basic laws of human rights are founded on the acknowledgement of the...

Things I wish I had been told..

I was a curious fellow and read up about freemasonry prior to joining. I mistakenly purchased a book that had the ritual in it. Luckily I never made it past half of the EA degree. But I didn't want and still don't want to be told anything. Before i joined i read too many Masons experiences, so I...

    Persecution of Christians--real persecution.

IMO, The problem lies in the inability to balance God's law(s) with Mans law(s). Both are important to our daily lives, and both can be in harmony with each other. We just don't allow it to happen.

    Prince Hall Masons

He could of not been a mason and just so happened to be wearing a shirt with the S&C. I know a few lodges in my area sponsor softball and soccer teams and the S&C and the lodge name are on the jerseys and I know the people I saw wearing them were not Masons.

Do any of you fancy Shakespear?

From what I understand, Francis Bacon and Shakespeare were fellows. Both were influential during the Enlightenment. I've also read that at one point in time it was thought that try we're same person and that Shakespeare was a pseudo name for Bacon.
