Hey everyone, i just picked up the book and was wondering what you guys think. Im currently waiting for the vote for initiation...guess what I'm asking is do you think reading it before hand would disrupt the quality of experience going into masonry or is it the kind of book that i can go crazy n read it till im blue in the face. Lol

I read it long before I petitioned. So far (I'm only an EA) it doesn't seem to have spoiled anything any more than a history channel show about Freemasons would. Bear in mind though, it is highly speculative and makes a fair share of historical leaps that many disagree with. A good read still.

I happen to think it will be better to read it after you have passed through your degrees. It's highly speculative, a fun read, but I liked going through my degrees cold and it would have set my expectations.

Well thankfully my expectations of masonry is only to get what i put into it, so if the book may give the idea that being a mason means wealth and power, theres no cause for alarm as all the brothers i have met are all very informative :)

Honestly man, I'd hold off on reading much of anything. I know it's hard to wrap your mind around not studying up on something, but you're better off IMO. Even from just reading the book perspective, you'll have the context necessary to appreciate that book better.

The ideas of Masonry - To be studied. The content of the degrees - To be experienced cold.

That's my take. Ask a friend for his recommendation. Have faith your friend will take good care of you. Step out in faith by going in cold. Get the maximum emotional impact from your degrees. Or read up on the content, maybe not even notice what that says about trust, lose much of the emotional impact.
