Tiler. Elected or Appointed?

Ya in my lodge it is the job of the inner guard to ensure the lodge is tyled and attend the alarms of the outer door. Interesting differences.

No, We have Tiler or outerguard who stands outside the lodge and an inner guard who stands inside the lodge. We do also have Jr. and Sr. Deacons who's task is to relay messages and the like.


Same in Victorian Australia. I think this is an Emulation arrangement

Inner Guard is quite a modern invention and not that historical, so some jurisdictions have it and some don't...
But Tyler existed since a very long time...
