    Greetings from southeast Texas

Howdy all. I was a little confused when I couldn't get signed on, but after reading about the transfer to a new setup, now I understand what happened. I have been getting the word out down this way about the forum. Come see us in Beaumont!

    My story

I did not grow up with any direct exposure to Masons although I later learned that several family members from previous generations were members. After graduating college and embarking on my career in Bryan Texas, I found myself working alongside a very respectable gentleman (call him Clyde) who...

Who's going to be the new President & Vice President?

Without respect to political leanings and basing my opinion solely on the qualifications of the candidate, McCain is my choice without a second thought. To vote for Obama would be like putting an EA in the East and hoping the Lodge doesn't get run into the ground. Factoring in my political...

    Lodge Administration Forum

For those of you not familiar with Waco, plan to have lunch or dinner at Poppa Rollo's Pizza and be sure to make time to have some liquid refreshment at George's. Both are 'have to go visit' destinations in Waco. In addition to the Grand Lodge, of course.

Car & Bike Show Hosted by Ft Worth 148

Are you all making up a T-shirt for the car show? If you are, I would be interested in buying one.

    Outdoor Degree

Outdoor degrees are really incredible. If you have to drive a hundred miles, it will be worth it!

    Famous Masons

I was recently in Denver Colorado and visited Buffalo Bill Cody's gravesite. The Grand Lodge of Coloroado has a marker there acknowledging that he was a Master Mason.

    A true Brother

I have a similar story. A few years ago, my best friend going back to college roommate days finally asked me "so what is this Masonry stuff anyway?" The rest is history. He is now a MM over at Round Rock.

What does your Lodge focus on?

I think we focus primarily on ritual and membership.

    How effective are your meetings?

We take care of business at our Lodge, but we have fun doing so. I think meetings can be as pleasant or unpleasant as the officers allow them to be. Our leadership over the past two years has understood that having a good time need not be mutually exclusive from taking care of business. They...

    Fees and Dues

At Tolerance 1165 in Beaumont, I think the annual dues are around $75. I don't recall what the degree fees are.

    Tombstones...

I definitely want a Square and Compass on my tombstone, when the day comes.

Name three things you wish we could change...

My Lodge: We need a larger building! Grand Lodge: More agressive, progressive thought. Masonry in general: We need to get the word out to the new generation.

Tombstones at Gonzales Masonic Lodge Cemetery

Masonic tombstones are something I have been interested in ever since I was a little kid and wondered 'what is that logo?' Although not as prevalent today as they were in the nineteenth century, you can still see a large number of contemporary graves bearing the square and compass. A brother...

    Aprons

I was originally raised in California, and am now affiliated with a lodge in Texas. Out West, your apron is given to you along with a thick cardboard tube big enough to store it in rolled up. I keep it in that.

    Conspiracies

Not exactly a conspiracy theory, but a coworker recently asked me if Masons have to tithe their lodge like a church. I'd never heard that one before. I explained the reality of the fraternity to him, and put him in touch with a Past Master in his community. He is now petitioning the lodge.
