With one possible exception (Pennsylvania) American Lodges generally have no one between the Stewards and the Deacons.
And chiming in for PA, Stewards do not have a role or place in the Lodge room, nor do they have a specific apron or jewel. They are typically involved with the serving and preparation of the meals, etc.
We have three appointed officers who sit in front of the Sr. Warden's Station in the West, from left to right, facing East, Senior Master of Ceremonies (Who sets in place the HB, S&C and answers alarms at the examining room door in the NW), The Pursuivant, (Who Tyles the Lodge and answers alarms at the Outer Door), and the Junior Master of Ceremonies (who answers alarms at the Preparing room door in the SW). The Junior Deacon sits at the right hand of the Senior Warden.
Hierarchically, the "rank" of the appointed officers is Senior Deacon > Junior Deacon > Pursuivant > SR MC > JR MC.
During degree work the candidate is conducted solely by a Guide, appointed by the WM.
