The Grand Orient of France

I'm wondering what American and English freemasons think about The Grand Orient of France? Are they freemasons? What do you think about their participation in French and European politics?

The Grand Orient of France has not been recognised as practising regular Freemasonry by the UGLE since 1877.

That was the year when it allowed membership of Atheists in its Lodges and began to really get involved in both political and religious interests in France.

A couple of years ago it also became androgynous in its practises as, while not Initiating them, it allows female Freemasons to visit Masonically.

I didn't need Masonry to teach me that all of humanity is one family, but Masonry did repeat that lesson for me. I understand that when a jurisdiction decides to go irregular recognition gets puled from them. Without recognition I won't ever seen one of their members in a tiled meeting. There's a lot of gray zone between those stances.

Are they FreeMasons? The Moon is beautiful on a cloudless night. I don't think the question leads to a yes or no answer so that's why I answered with a Koan.

US and UGLE Masons may not hold Masonic meetings with GOF members.

There were many people involved in formation of the EU. I suspect only a fraction claimed any Masonic membership.

I did try to politely illustrate it earlier but maybe I was being too subtle. The GOdF is an irrelevance in the wider world of Freemasonry which is why it will ally itself with anyone who it thinks will help to increase its possible sphere of influence.
