As an Officer, what should my priority be?

Bro. Blake, You must, by GLoT law, implement the ALL and LIFE programs. Start teaching them yourself. Go to other lodges and learn, or get the DI to come once a month and teach the ones that show up. I am going though the same thing with my lodge and if we have two people show up we teach...

    Hey Y'all! From Conroe, TX

Welcome Brother Travis. May I extend an invitation to come sit with us at Montgomery Lodge any time.

Have you worn your white leather apron?

There is no law requiring a brother to be buried with his apron or jewelry. In fact, we now encourage a brother to make his wishes known prior to someone else having to make that decision for him after he is gone. This way he can make sure that his apron and jewelry are passed on if that is...

    Candles or Bulbs

One lodge that I belonged to used candles, but they were the butane type and were really nice. Because they were separate they could be placed in the proper positions at the alter. Montgomery uses bulbs and they are nice but I don't feel they give quite the same feeling when being "brought...

Have you worn your white leather apron?

If it hasn't been said yet, as suggestion to those who keep their aprons in tubes. Take it out and lay it flat. I have been to many (unfortunately) funerals where the brothers apron has been stored for years in a tube and will not lie flat on the casket. Kind of looks funny if you know...

Have you worn your white leather apron?

Yes. Actually, I wore my step-father's (who had passed before this date) when I raised my son in 2003 so there were three generations represented and he wore mine when I was installed by the M:. W:. David Counts as master of Montgomery #25. For those who have visited the website and...

EA and FC at stated meetings

It seems to be working for my lodge. We were one of the first to open a stated on an EA, only because we meet two days after GL passed this. I was concerned that we would lose the FC and MM work due to not opening on those degrees but that has not been the case. Oh, we don't whiz through it...

    JW Reading the Law

Well put. And this is a brother who wants everything nailed shut, by him. He has not shown up in lodge since I became Master. And neither has 98% of the contention we had in the lodge. Could there be a correlation between the two?:D

EA and FC at stated meetings

Your last line says it all... EAs and FCs should not just be scullery help. They should also have an idea of how the lodge is run. I can understand that they don't have the right to vote on issues. I'm ok with that. But why exclude them from lodge life?

    JW Reading the Law

That was the special open meeting. However, we had one old timer run around screaming that GL would come down and pull our charter. He is part of what we call the "4 and 40" crowd. He only wants 4 members in lodge and 40 dollars in the bank.

    My point exactly....

EA and FC at stated meetings

Thank you. As one of my officers told me recently, "It is fun coming back to lodge again." I know that not all of our efforts will be appreciated, especially by some of the old 'moss backs' but it is still the ultimate responsibility of the Master to preside over and control the meeting...

EA and FC at stated meetings

What MM business?? Anything that pertains to only MMs is conducted in a MM lodge to begin with. As we ask our EA/FC to help with the work and contribute their time and money to a lodge I feel that not only are they members but have a vested right in helping to decide what is going on. I...

    JW Reading the Law

It wasn't a closed meeting. And that was the whole point. We opened a MM lodge and called it to refreshment. Included and presented at the same time was a Golden Trowel award and two scholarships. Except for the Golden Trowel all the others were to non-masons. We filled the lodge room...
