Montana Masonry, Yellowstone and a Minnesota Mason

Hi all, Here is a paper I wrote and presented in Lodge about Nathan P. Langford, a Mason from Minnesota and his role in bringing Masonry to Montana, the discovery of Yellowstone National Park and leading the Minnesota Historical Society. I hopy you enjoy it. Any mistakes or mis attributions...

    Keeping it a surprise.

I too, joined with minimal knowledge of any one other than the brother that was my first line signer. Coming from a College Fraternity setting I was very confused by the lack of interaction other than the investigation visit. Also the lack of interaction during the interim of my degrees. My...

University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital

This....exactly. The Masonic Cancer Center was built back in the 50's as a hospice type facility. Over the years it has evolved into the world class research facility that it is. The previous donor allowed the naming rights to expire early to clear the way for this naming. I am sure going...

University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital

I was tired when I wrote it up...I don't think it's a bad thing either. I was just surprised. The last large gift to the Masonic Cancer Center had more communication around it and more people know of it happening. This came out of no where. Most brothers I have talked with are excited and...

University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital

This one caught me off guard. Haven't heard anything about it till now...25 Million dollar gift to the U of Minnesota. Previous gift was 65 Million or some huge number for the Masonic Cancer Center, which was one of the first of it's kind back in the 50's. To date over 125 Million has been...

    Minding the West Gate?

....falls off soap box...breaks ankle..... No...I understand the thread...but that is my point...how do you guard the west gate? By knowing who is coming through it. You do that by spending time and introducing the person to the craft and the members first. Then you help them pass through...

Episode 34 - Walking Old Yeller

This post is the show notes for the Afterlodge podcast. It's really good. Not so much so if you are easily offended or dislike some course language. The idea of this podcast is that's the banter and discussions that occurr after their lodge meeting. As of late a lot of times discussion...

    Minding the West Gate?

....places soap box on floor and steps up.... Different perspective. In college I joined a greek letter fraternity. At one point I was Rush Chair with the responsibility of getting in new members. We were a small house, no more than 25 members...so every body was vitally important to our...

    Freemasonry Stereotypes from non brothers

this kind of stuff applies to other groups as well...for those of us who are members of college greek letter fraternities, the public views us as drunken rapists. Are there bad apples? Sure...no different than any group or organization...but I find I talk less about my college fraternity days...

    Lexington Kentucky

I had the pleasure of sitting down to dinner and in lodge with the brothers of Devotion Lodge #160 in Lexington Kentucky Monday evening. It was exciting as it was my first opportunity to travel to another lodge as well being out of state. It was a very warm, welcoming group of gentlemen. I...

Are you the First Mason in your family?

I am the first that I know of. One area of mystery was a mention by my father that his grandfather had a Knights of columbus sword...somewhere. But the funny thing is that side of the family is not catholic, so it's either a commandry sword or another fraternal group sword. Not sure.
