I voted York Rite. I've been a member for several years and I'm just now starting to appreciate the significance of the York Rite degrees. If blue lodge was a 3 layer cake then the degrees from York Rite would be the icing. :)
My advice to brothers trying to memorize their work is to attend as many degrees as they can. Most of the memory work is taken directly from the degrees so being able to watch them will help you to visualize your work. That was my experience anyhow.
No degrees going on? If your lodge likes...
Men will have all of their lives to focus on esoteric work after their degrees and a lot of the lessons we are taught derive directly from the memory work and associated degrees.
I've been getting very interested and involved in York Rite recently and it occurred to me that I knew nothing...
Hello Brethren!
We all know Blue Lodge is absolutely full of symbolism and that made me start wondering what kind of symbols there are in York Rite. I've done some research online and haven't been able to come up with much and I'm not convinced most of those sites are very trustworthy...
Maybe I've misunderstood all along, if so then someone please correct me. It was my understanding that the amount of money you pay for endowment actually goes to Grand Lodge. The endowments get invested by GL and all lodges are supposed to see some sort of monetary return for it each year...
I voted 'no' because of the way endowments are being handled right now. It's my opinion that endowments should be local and not go to Grand Lodge. Lots of lodges would have benefited from actually being able to keep all of that money and just keep paying the per capita each year instead of...
I would suggest browsing over some of the articles at http://artofmanliness.com/ if you're really interested in this kind of shaving.
That being said, I switched somewhat recently from using cheap, disposable razors to my grandpa's old Gillette safety razor and I'm very happy with my...
At our last stated meeting we voted to approve the minutes before our secretary read them. There are apparently other lodges that do the same thing and it's really a great time saver. I can't speak for anyone else but I tend to zone out when the minutes are being read anyhow.
I think we've...
I personally really enjoy the short form. Our meetings were starting to take an obsurdly long time to complete (3-4 hours for a stated meeting) and using short form openings is just one of several ways we've used to try and streamline things a bit more.
Lots of great ideas here. I've seen it several times where people seem to feel entitled to progress simply because they filled a position for a year.
Bro. Bill hit the nail on the head. It may hurt some people's feelings but not everyone is a born leader and not everyone is WM, SW, or even...
We have one stated meeting each month and that's usually where all the business gets handled that ends up taking so long. I haven't thought of the idea of having more than one meeting and designating them as business or non-business...that's an interesting idea. So you essentially have two...
Hello brothers!
I'm the Junior Warden at our lodge which seems to have about 10 active members out of about 80 total dues paying members (which I think is good from what I hear from time to time). I'd like to try and renew interest among our current membership by introducing some...
If you have any questions feel free to ask or PM me! I know we still have a few months to go but if anyone is interested in traveling a ways for this then I'm sure knowing in advance will help with planning.
Just thought I'd bump this since we have many more coins available if anyone is interested.
If so, just send me a PM and we can see about arrangements. You can probably also PM the OP if you prefer but I can guarantee a response on my part if the OP doesn't hasn't checked their account in...
I think you really hit the nail on the head with that. The investigation is the first step of the process and I think we are taking steps in the right direction to fix that. I suppose my issue with black balls would become somewhat of a moot point if investigations were more in depth. My...
We seem to live in a society now that desires instant gratification and 1 day festivals seem to be an attempt to appeal to that.
That having been said, I disagree with it. If you're going to make it so easy, why even bother with any of the ceremony and just give them a dues card? I think...
