I would opine that Masonry BEGAN as a Christian fraternity (evidenced by fact that the prayer given just after reception of a new candidate ended with the words "in Jesus' name we pray." ...[3 Distinct Knocks (about 1750), I believe] It may or may not have been so in all lodges of the time, but...- Sam Whitley
