Lodge Social Media

I did a search and the most recent thread I found on this subject was over 4 years old, so I thought I would start afresh.

Does your lodge participate in Social Media? i.e. does your lodge have a Facebook Page or other social media account?

Our lodge does have a Facebook Page and as of today I am an administrator of it and we are discussing what is appropriate to post on it. It is a "Private" group so all members have to be approved by and admin and all posts must be approved by an admin. Last year a brother who was / is not an officer was added as an admin and the quantity of masonic related links, memes and frankly some barely masonic content and personal opinions were somewhat overshared. Our new WM removed this individuals admin rights and now we (Mostly the SW and I as the WM has assigned us) have to sift through this person's "submitted" posts to approve or delete them.

We want to set up easy to understand guidelines as to what is posted on the page. So far we can agree on posts of interest from the Grand Lodge's page, Meeting dates, times and information, Events the Lodge, District or Grand Lodge are holding or associated with, we want to avoid things from appendant bodies except charity type events that they may sponsor.

If you are involved in your lodge's social media, what are your guidelines? Are there things you include that I did not mention? Are there things you specifically exclude that we should consider?

I appreciate your input.

Our DGIW is on a big Facebook kick currently as we held an open day district wide and getting word out via Facebook proved wildly successful.
I think it’s important to define the goals of the Facebook page, are you recruiting? Just chatting with lodge buddies? General information?
The brother posting a ton of crap may have been doing so to just have posts going up on the page as they can stagnate when it’s a burden to those responsible for it, and when there is a lack of direction there is no spam or crap posts as the Facebook page becomes a catch all and just reflects poorly.
It’s also important to avoid using the Facebook page for communication as there are numerous brothers not involved of cause and they fall through the cracks.

They can be a great tool but I think keeping them very specialised is important and ensure the Facebook efforts don’t cost the primary website attention.
