Getting back into the craft....the RIGHT way!

Greetings All,

Been away from masonry a long time now, almost 10 years. Found out after some years (and some good info from a PHA brother) that my affiliation was to a "bogus" lodge. He explained to me about the "lineage" which I had no idea of. Of course myself and 2 of my childhood friends took this step into bogus masonry unknowingly, and with lack of information, so now I am taking the necessary steps to correct that mistake. Belonged to a bogus lodge in the Chicago area, demitted from that lodge (which I found out doesn't exist anymore now) now living in the Dallas area, I'm ready to take a step in the "right" direction. I have looked on MWPHAGLofTX website and I am reaching out to some lodges now so I can kind of get to know some brothers in hope of gaining membership and petitioning. Does the state of TX perform healing from bogus to PHA or does one have to I/P/R again? I searched this site and saw some info that they do not, but also been told some different info recently from a brother I met here in Dallas, so just wanted to get clarification. Also, in the event I do have to go through it over again, I'm concerned about the "hazing" aspect, as I am no longer a 24 year old guy as I once was going into what I THOUGHT was "real" (I'm sure you all understand). Lastly, since its been almost 10 years since I demitted from that lodge, do I have to renounce from that "Grand Lodge?" If its all bogus, I don't see where I should have to. Would love to get some insight on this from you guys!

This is a great forum guys, and I am reading and learning! Thanks!!!!!

From what I was told, they don't do healing anymore in the PHA grand lodge in Texas. I would hope that no regular grand lodge would participate in hazing. Not sure on renouncing but most clandestine lodges wouldn't let you demit if it was up to them.

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I have been getting a few different answers about the healing thing, but its all good. I'm prepared to go through it all again for the sake of being made correctly and legit. I would hope they don't haze either lol, if so, I'm not about that action some 22 years later lol. I was able to demit because I left from the state. Well, let me make that clear; I demit from the bogus Blue Lodge, not the bogus Grand Lodge. But if its all bogus anyway, its basically like starting all over since its not recognized by PHA/mainstream, so to me, I don't see why it would be a big issue. A brother here in Dallas has been giving me a LOT of great information as well. He is regular/non-PHA member of the GLofTX, and he told me that I might need a certified letter of demit, and all this other stuff. The bogus Blue Lodge I belonged to doesn't even exist anymore, and I wouldn't want all this hassle to keep me from going legit-especially from a lodge that's not recognized. Do I really have to hunt them down and get all this info from a BOGUS lodge?

You might also want to consider the Grand Lodge of Texas. I am sure there are some diverse lodges in the Dallas area.

Funny you should mention that. My co-worker has just extended an offer to me to come hang out with his brothers. He is a member of the Grand Lodge of Texas (Edwin Kiest) and he was just speaking on how I should consider them, and was it mandatory that I attempt to join PHA

Wouldn't be a bad idea to consider all your options. We had visitation now so you could visit the other grand lodge regardless with few limitations.

Yea I'm learning that now. I was offered a visit today actually from a brother from another AF&AM lodge than the one my co-worker belongs to. He is cool with my co-worker and he offered me to come have dinner and hang out before a meeting. He was explaining about the diversity in the GLofTX was growing from how it's been in the past if I had concerns about that. So far my journey has been good. These guys haven't been as "robotic" for lack of a better term as some PHA bros I have met.

Every success brother. I'm sure you'll work it out,.... really all that matters is what the GL you join wants you to do but I think you'll end up going through your degrees and in either regular GL of Texas, I'd be shocked if you got hazed.

Cheers

P.S..... I'd join the GL that let's me drink beer with my dinner at Lodge hehehe :)

Bloke, I'm not sure either TX GL allows alcohol on premises, and Texas still has a number of "dry" counties where it's not allowed at all.

I am the Grand Webmaster for the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas. We ended healing since many would heal over then go back to their old lodge. The steps are not too complicated; complete and submit the background check form through the lodge that you are interested in, once the check is complete without any issues then you will need to complete the application and pau the fee. If you can prove proficiency in the degrees the the process is quick but if not then you will have to start at the bottom floor. Contact me if you have any questions.
