I have yet to travel outside of my current jurisdiction (Texas), but I understand that most of the GLs, outside of the southern 9 that do not have recognition agreements with the PHGL of those states, are excited about the relationships that have with the PHGLs and that brothers visit each others jurisdictions fairly often.

I am a Mississippi Mason and as such we do not recognize PHA. However, I am working in Afghanistan and in my travels I have met many PHA Brothers and its been good and even though I can not visit a lodge its been nice to that there is that "magical tie that binds" and I am among men that I can trust

Recgonition ang regualrity are two different things. You can be regular and not be recognized. In 9 southern states PHA does not recognize the mainstream body and vice versa but both are regular. You can experience racism in any body of freemasonry because you are dealing with humans.

why is it that the UGLE calls pha regular but some grand lodges dont. forgive my ignorance but that seems a little dumb because every regular grand lodge consider UGLE the"mother lodge" so with a little reasoning you would think that if the mother lodge calls pha regular then every "offspring" of the mother lodge would consider it regular

Actually, it's the other way around. The way it works is that UGLE will not recognize a particular PHA GL as regular until & unless the "mainstream" (& I hate that term) GL of that state/country does so. That is one of the reasons PHAGLoT sought recognition as regular from GLoT- so that they could receive the same from UGLE.

on a scale of 1 to 10 how much does being recognized as regular from UGLE mean to you personally

The biggest benefit I've personally received is the friendship of & fellowship with Brethren from other states & countries, many of whom I never would have met, much less been able to engage in Masonic intercourse with, were I not a member of a GL recognized by the UGLE.

And I've suspected that its only that way because the "mainstream" lodges went to repair the relationship with UGLE before prince hall lodges did. I wonder If PHA had restored recognition from England before "mainstream", would they have to repair their relationships with PHA before UGLE would recognize them? And in Texas, the recognition seems to be on paper only, as there is no visitation or anything else normally associated with recognition. I look forward to more progress in the Lone Star State...

Actually, it is my understanding that UGLE recognized the oldest (as in first to be established) Grand Lodge in a particular state (or country). As GLoT was formed long before MWPHAGLoT, UGLE recognized GLoT and then required PHA to first receive recognition from GLoT before getting it from UGLE. If PHA had been established first, it would have worked the other way around.

Gotcha, that makes sense. But, did UGLE approach US lodges, or vice versa?

I just scanned over the list of recognized lodges on the UGLE site and you are right, the states that have mutual recognition both show, in states without only the "Mainstream" shows. http://www.ugle.org.uk/about-ugle/recognised-foreign-grand-lodges/grand-lodges-in-north-america/

I believe Pennsylvania dropped their previous charter (Scotland or Ireland) and requested recognition form UGLE under the leadership of Benjamin Franklin.

And, if I remember right, the UGLE sent a charter to New York with a master mason from that colony much as Louisiana did to Texas at the battle of San Jacinto.

There would be proof that it has been done both ways.

DISCLAIMER: I really can't remember a damn thing according to Luminsty ... but I think it has more to do with having fat fingers. :31:
