Something isn't right...

I ran into a guy here at work that wears a masonic ring and has a plate on his car that says, '2b1ask1'. I've never talked to this guy before. Two days before my interveiws I found him on facebook and said, "nice ring, I petitioned a lodge here in town. Is it yours?". He said, "no, I belong to a lodge across town where I live.". I then said, "do you have any advice reguarding my interveiws?". He had no response. Today at work I noticed he has removed he plate from his car and isn't wearing that ring...

What would you do?

Strange. Maybe he doesn't want to be singled out at work for being a mason. Odd though considering he's putting it out there. I'd leave it alone. Some people want to separate their work an personal lives I guess.

That's why I approached the lodge myself and not this guy. Work and non work shouldn't mix. This is the reason I didn't go to his work area to ask if he was in the lodge I petitioned. I completely get that.

It just puzzled me that now he has no bling after being asked.

Usually in situations like this, I find that these people posing to be Masons are either not current on their dues, not active, or a member of some clandestine Lodge. Just my observation, so please don't be discouraged by this if you come across this in the future.

• I agree. Sounds like as soon as he found out you were a real mason, he would have to explain some things he couldn't, so disassociated himself and now hopes you won't ask.

Based on what I've learned so far... I probably won't. I don't like dishonesty to begin with. Maybe he hose the front being a mason knowing that the common person wouldn't know how to test or question it. Where I live and work you don't see to many Masons. The older crowd has car badges but for the most part I think the younger crowd has tattoos. I've seen people at the lodge that I've known or worked with most of.my adult life and had no idea the were in the botherhood.

Well, I hate to be contrary - but there is another potential reason.

He didn't like the looks of you, something rubbed him wrong in your conversation with him, or he had already formed an opinion of you that made you being made a Mason a thought he couldn't stomach.

Sorry, but thats potentially the truth. And if he was flying the "2B1ASK1" tag and then took it down after speaking with you, I think its an option worth considering.

I'm not saying that he'd be right to get that impression, or anything like that - only being direct and straight with you.

His actions do sound "fishy". However, I think it may be too quick a judgement to say he is a cowan or anything of the like. It sounds like you made the initial greeting and he, for some reason, has shied away. He may not be a very active member of his lodge, for any number of reasons, but still a proud mason. Maybe he will re-explore the reasons behind his inactivity and become more active at his or another lodge. The possibilies are infinite. My point is not to be so quick to denounce the man, possibly a true brother, for his abrupt change. It may not be as sinister as it seems.

Some of that was pretty harsh but I wont take it personal as I know you are just tryig to make a point. :)

It could just be that he doesn't want to be the go to guy when I have questions. It could be that he hasn't been in lodge for a long time. It could be that his facebook life doesn't portray him as a Mason. I say this because his life seems to revolve around jim beam.

It could also be that he doesn't like me. I'm not goig to count that out. In my position at work I don't get paid to be a social butterfly. I fix my machine and when I'm not fixing them I clean them and when I'm not doing either of those things I don't make friends. I have always been that way because that's what my boss expects from me.
