persecution

Brethren, I am sorry to say I have recently been feeling down. I am always happy and proud of my masonic membership. But recently I have been persecuted and singled out by some college professors as well a students on campus, they are absolutely disgusted about my masonic membership. I am a Master Mason. I try to apply all my "working tools" in dealing with others but it has finally taken its toll. I've been told by brethren and friends that I have been less positive and less kind. earlier to day I looked at my masonic ring I wear with sadness I feel like I let down the fraternity.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time brother.

This is why I don't wear any of the bling or advertise my membership indiscriminately. I've found that, sadly, the lodge can close more doors than it opens in the profane world. In fact, I was riding in Waco with my host teacher (I'm a student teacher) a few weeks ago when we pulled up behind a truck with lots of masonic stickers on the back. I spent the next 20 or 30 minutes hearing how the masons are bad people while I just smiled and nodded, inwardly glad she didn't know she was talking to one.

I see what you mean, but I believe that if you belong to a private organization you should declare your interest.

They are entitled to their opinions, but remind them (as gently as you're able) that they can keep them to themselves. They ARE NOT entitled to voice their opinions during class time, especially in the case of the instructor.
It is unfortunate that you have to suffer these fools, but unfortunately it comes with the membership.

I'm curious as to what they find so "disgusting" about the craft. History channel brainwashing? Stories of bad apples that are present in every organization? Secrecy?

In my meaeger dealings with the craft (i very recently petitioned after years of consideration), I must say that I have come across several lodges that seem to have entitled themselves to an aire of elitism & in many cases downright rudeness. such is life, though. Nothing is perfect, and I'm sure we all struggle as we continue to make our "rough ashlars perfect", as they say.

JJones, brother I live in Waco, and you should have simply drove your student past the lodge, without saying a word and struck a conversation about history, and used the building as a land mark, and then see if the remarks wold have been spoken again or if the history of the building would have been intriguing enough to blind the student to overlook the lodge symbol on the building. I think that would have been an interesting conversation

No, no, I was riding with my host teacher. I'm kind of like an intern right now and I'm a guest in her classroom, I don't see any benefit in bringing anything up that may make me unwelcomed. I'm just saying discretion has done me more good than harm. :)

Ok, I misunderstood brother, to each his own, but I would never be discreet about being part of something bigger than myself just to avoid persecution, be proud brother and walk tall.

Just tell them you're taking over the world and will have the IRS and NSA take a peek at their financials and personal information. Joking aside, I don't understand how people who are not Freemasons nor experienced the degrees first hand believe they are in a position to judge. It just shows you how feeble their minds are. History Channel and youtube conspiracy videos do not define what Freemasonry is.

There is a reason Mussolini and Hitler banned the Craft, arrested it's members and often times murdered them.

There are Masons and Lodges that will disappoint you. They'll attempt to educate you with grandiose ideas and lessons, but fail to follow the very principles of Freemasonry themselves.

They are just taking some information they got from somewhere/one else and exaggerating it just because we keep our rituals "PRIVATE" (not secret).

This was done out of fear. You cannot control someone that is thinking for themself, and a dictator must be in control of all around him at all times. Since the Craft is comprised of "free-thinking" individuals, they feared this, in that they could not control them, so the Craft was banned. When this happened, the Masons of that area/time started wearing the forget-me-not as a signifier, to show one another who they were, yet the outsiders didn't have a clue.

Edit: When I hear someone say that they heard that the Masons were all about taking over the world, I just tell them "I must have missed that meeting" and just chuckle.
