Chapter Only?

As a Master Mason considering the York Rite, I have been wondering about something, but haven't found it addressed anywhere. Why are Chapter and Council usually referred to together? A local lodge hosts a Chapter that meets in odd months and a Council in even months.

Is membership in both C&C mandatory, or is it permissible to "stop" at Chapter/RAM?

Penury and the need for focus are why I'm asking. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Coastwatcher - They are two separate bodies of Masonry within the York Rite. It is customary to refer to them together because the degrees fit so closely and the members are usually the same. Ours meets every month first the Chapter meeting and then the Council meeting. I am trying to make them more distinct and stand alone. The degrees are very interesting and the stories behind them as well. The Council is the only truly "American" Masonry -it was founded here, the work developed here and it was first practiced here.

As with everything in Masonry, nothing is Mandatory. Go through Chapter and I guarantee you will want Council - it is interesting.

Bro. Hammond,

Thank you very much for the explanation. I recall having read where some consider YR as the American Rite (hmmm, kind of like the sound of that, actually).

I'll contact my local Chapter and see where it leads!

All the best in your endeavors.

As someone considering the York Rite, this is a helpful post!

My Brother - You don't have to consider it, just come on over to Ft Worth. We are real close for you in Mansfield and we are growing and would welcome you and any other brother who is interested.

You can download a petition from our site or from the Grand Chapter or Council sites

Of course you will want to join Texas Chapter and Council in Ft Worth
So there is no need to look further :)

I will be happy to meet with you and explain anything you have questions about. I live in Arlington easy to meet somewhere.

Look forward to you continuing your York RITE journey.

Bruce
