SOme programs to involve the Community might include these:
• Patriotic program for the Fourth of July, with emphasis on Masons such as Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and others.
• Public Schools Week program. Involve members in going into the schools to read to kids, fix/build a playground or classroom, donate books/educational material to the school library. The history of Texas Masons and Education is deep. You can learn more through some of the history books available from Grand Lodge. Your Lodge may have them on the shelves.
• Texas History program: Sam Houston is a prime example of Masonry's effects on the Texas Revolution. The Grand Lodge website has great info on the men who were Masons involved in the Texas Revolution.
• Community Builder program: The Community Builder award is given by the Lodge to a community member who exemplifies the volunteer, giving spirt of Masonry. It is a community member who is not a Mason.
• Fund raisers for school organizations. Our lodge holds annual fund raisers that give away all the money to a school group that does not have a big Booster club behind it: Arts, Academics, Business, etc.
Hope this helps.
