Outdoor degree

I am to be passed on Monday; and we are hoping that I will be raised on the 25th of June at an outdoor degree put on annually by one of the lodges in this area. I had originally planned on my raising to be in "my" lodge; but I've been assured by several of our PMs (one who is a close friend) that the outdoor lodge meeting is quite memorable.

We had an outdoor degree last year in Kendallville, IN. We had the Grand Master there with our 150 year old charter (of course). Anyway, it started to rain to beat the band, an honest to God, deluge if biblical proportion. We saved the charter but the Grand Master was soaked to the bone. Thankfully he has a great sense of humor.

In Kentucky, the lodges sometimes perform masonic degrees in Mammoth Cave (National Park). They load up, and travel deep, over one mile underground, and do the degree work in a natural rock formation.

In Wyoming, a lodge there does a spectacular MM degree. They load up on pack mules, and go up on top of a mesa, out in the badlands. They set up camp, and do the MM degree under the stars, in the tradition of our ancient brethren, who met in low valleys, and on high hills. 25 Master Masons travel up the mesa, and 26 Master Masons travel down. There was a fabulous article written in the SR journal, some years ago.
