What you are feeling is perfectly normal. The anticipation of being accepted into something greater than yourself is humbling. We have all been in your shoes.

As I have mentioned in other posts, when I petitioned I thought that I did not know anyone who would be able to sign for me. My long time barber is a Mason, and he directed me to another Brother who had the petitions & who would become the first signer. Little did I know, the Brother that I was sent to is one of the most respected in our district.... I left Jimmy's, and went back to get Seth(barber) to sign for me and he did. Seth then told me that the Lodge's stated meeting was the following Thursday and for me to take the petition then for the remainder of the signatures. So I went home and filled it out as best I could, and then hit the Internet. I soon found out that one of my long time friends was the seated Junior Warden!! I sent him an e-mail to let him know that I would be there the following week, and asked him I he would sign my petition; of course he was ecstatic about it.

So by the time that I hit the door of the Lodge that Thursday, I had 3 of 5 signatures where initially I had none. I did not find out that my uncle was a Mason until long after his death. I have his apron now. The most recent relative prior to Eddie, would date back until the Civil War.

Long story shortened, when I walked in the door I was greeted not only by the Brothers that had already signed my petition but the JW & another long time friend..... I had NO idea. Needless to say, by the time that those 4 had signed my petition; I had no problem securing the 5th from a Brother who I just spent a few minutes talking to....

It's a wonderful thing, this Fraternity. I look forward to hearing more about your progress!

It is perfectly normal, to have some nervousness and trepidation, upon the beginning of any serious undertaking. Let not your heart be troubled. You are going to be among an international society of friends and brothers. Everyone there, will be delighted, that you have consented to allow Freemasonry, into your life.

Good men, since time immemorial, have trod the path, that you will soon be traveling. Even the late Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny (and other cartoon characters), was a brother.

I encourage you to relax, enjoy your introduction, and when your petition is approved, please let us know, how your degree work progresses.

May the Great Architect of the Universe guide your steps.

Remember that everyone there has done exactly what you are doing. Look at some of them and remember, if they can do it, you can.

The interview isn't really all that bad, they just want to get to know you and vice versa.

When doing your degrees, try and relax and pay attention. The proficiency is based on them and remembering the order comes in handy. Go and see an EA degree or 2 after you do yours, it will help you to see someone else go through it and hear the stuff again.
