I have had interest in Freemasonry for many years, perhaps to childhood, since I remember enjoying a particular book as a boy. I remember that it had several essays on American history and some cartoons in the back. I also recall that the author had "33°" after his name. At the time, it meant nothing to me, but I learned years afterward what that refers to. Over the years, I have read about Freemasonry, both fairly pedestrian (truthful) and terribly fun and exciting (fictional or worse) material. In any case, I have finally decided to act upon my interest and have contacted the local lodge (#323 in Texas). I am particularly interested in Freemasonry as a way to carve men, as it were, into fine, smooth blocks for the edifice of society.
