As a Kentucky Mason I would not say it is the "right way" or the "best way" , it is simply "our way" .
No , I would not say our way is the best way because there is value in each and every jurisdiction's style . The same lessons are taught , only in a different manner .
Edit : never mind . All I will say is I tried to get to that one brother and hit a wall . And I know other lodges in the same boat , full of the "our way or no way" crowd . If you do get to that one brother who is interested he is shutdown just as quick as the man trying to introduce the...
I was reading a thread on another forum concerning this topic and I think it is an interesting topic . Now I do not want to turn this into a country VS city lodges , but more on the lines of the differences you have seen .
I am a dual member of both a country and city lodge so I have the...
My second lodge does what we call a "Re-Obligation Night" . Though we are allowed to have "Rusty Nail Degrees" , it is a way around using the word "Degree" and would be classified as a "Lodge of Instruction" . So if your GL lodge does not allow side degrees , this may be a way around that rule ...
At funerals . When we hold that Lambskin up and tell the friends and family of the departed brother that the lambskin is an "emblem of innocence and a badge of a Mason...." I do not think it looks right , the brethren wearing cloth aprons .
I answered Fellowcraft , but it is a toss up between the EA and the FC . I loved the FC degree because of the Staircase Lecture (Middle Chamber) . I love delivering and I love hearing it when delivered well .
I loved the EA because it was my first experience in a Masonic Lodge and it was an...
My favorite Working tool is from the Emulation Ritual , it is one of the three working tools of a Master Mason .... the PENCIL .
The operative use of the Pencil is to draw up plans . The Speculative use of the pencil is to remind Masons that their words and deeds are recorded by the Great...
We have on our Lodge Investigation reports these questions....
1) Do you believe in a Supreme being ?
2) Do You attend church ?
3) If Yes , which Church ?
4) How often do you attend church ?
When I am chairman of an investigation committee I only ask question ONE and draw a line through...
My brother is an on-again/off-again conspiracy theorist . Right after he watched the movie National Treasure he called me and asked if I knew about the treasure . Which I laughed and answered "No , it is only a plot device in a movie." . He still doesn't believe me .
Why does he have to be the "permanent " Junior Steward I wonder ? Just do the cooking and allow young Masons to fill the Junior/Senior Steward chairs . ETA : I guess I can understand the reasoning , he may wish to be an officer but not move through the chairs . A lodge in my area has had the...
I have always thought that asking two men to cook , wash dishes , clean up after 30 or more men once or twice a month is too much to ask . This is why in my second lodge next year , as Master , I am creating a food committee of four Brothers .
I would be happier if it was more like the local...
I do not attend church as I do not care for organized religion . I have found more hatred , backbiting and gossiping within the walls of churches than I have found most anywhere else . And I do not hold it against any man who does not wish to attend church .
I find God in everything around me...
Maybe they need to throw a few fundraisers , say a few bake sales , grapefruit sales , fish fries , breakfasts' etc; etc; .
Sorry , could not help myself .
I agree with you , though I am from another jurisdiction . Every year at Grand Lodge session , I go over the Grand Lodge's advanced Treasurer's report with a fine tooth comb . What they spend (on themselves) is ludicrous ! If any Mason has not looked over their annual Grand Lodge treasurer's...
We have a group of Masons who hang out "unofficially" together , We have BBQs' , dinners , special occasions etc; etc; when one of us got married , most everyone invited were us Masons . We sit around drink a few beers , some good scotch and talk about Freemasonry and general chit chat . We...
I have read the other posts and Cigarzan , I DO see your point . It IS according to where the lodge is located .
Like I said , my mother lodge is a country lodge . It is a blue jeans and work boots lodge , we are far out in the country and do not receive visitors from other states or the GL...
Exactly , on all counts .
My apologies if I offended anyone , but I did not become a Mason to work fundraisers to pay for the running and making repairs to the lodge . This is why we pay dues .
Though I am not from Texas , the Secretary reads the pertinent information such as name , criminal record , drug use (like someone would tell us the truth) in my lodges and if found favorable/unfavorable . The Secretary does not delve into addresses , work history and other trivial things . We...
The Shrine has never been something I have been interested in , it is not what I am looking for in Masonry . But I do have fun at their pig roasts , Delicious !!!! You boys sure do know how to throw a party .
