Some have grown up in an electronic age and want their info that way. They seem to refuse to pick up an actual book. My oldest for instance reads all the time on his Kindle, but I haven't seen him pick up an actual book in ages. I am going to try the idea of a Masonic study group and see what...
I think that when you start saying esoteric people tend to think kook. That comes from lack of education. I don't want people to think that when I say esoteric that I am going to go off on some tangent that calls their beliefs into question or tell them that what they believe is wrong.
I may try that idea. We have a large percentage of the ones that attend bolt as soon as the WM raps the gavel. Maybe this could get them to stick around for a change.
That's what I originally thought but with the way it is worded it made me wonder. I used to think that at the point of being an EA was when I could go back to but I see it as as an EA or FC you don't (at least in Oklahoma) have a dues card and I think back to some of the stuff you are told in...
I think you may be on to something there. It is a mindset that we need to change. Like a lot of business coaches will say, if you think you will fail you will. I am slowly bringing it back to my Lodge and I am hoping it will last and maybe some others will take up the idea and start doing their...
It is funny how that happens. There is a guy I went to church with for several years and just found out a couple of months ago he was a Mason. He just received his 50-year pin in December. One of the instructors at the Army school where I teach is a Mason also and I am trying to get him back in...
We do that on occasion. It mostly happens when we are doing courtesy work. Some of the Brothers from the Lodge we are doing the work for may want to sit in a chair for the degree but not opening. I have seen some that only do one part of a degree and nothing else so when it is time to open they...
Excellent post Brother! You words echo my thoughts. I have found my learning comes from me have the drive and initiative to learn on my own. I guess we live in a day and age where places like this have become the modern day versions of the taverns during the 18th century. I do wish though, that...
For me it was a matter of service to my Lodge. As it is right now every chair is filled by a first timer. For the longest time our Lodge line was filled with PMs. Every position was filled by someone who had been in the East at least once. About 6 months after I was raised the incoming WM asked...
As has been stated by others this is a journey about you and your journey not anyone else. It is your decision to make where you will feel most comfortable. The more comfortable you are with the Lodge and the Brothers that make up the membership the more likely you will be to active and...
Congrats soon-to-be Brother! Ditto what Bro. Blake said. Listen well to what you hear and are told. Take your time and it will make the journey even better.
You can also go through Google. They have their own website system called Google Sites. I think you can even get your domain name through them if you want but there are numerous alternatives out there as far as hosting goes. Just do a search for web hosting and start looking over what they offer...
The nervousness is natural. When I went to my Lodge for the first time was for a monthly breakfast and I knew not a single person there. Within a couple of minutes of being there that feeling went away. By the end of the morning I felt as though I had known some of them for years. It will be a...
I wish it were a perfect world and this type of behavior from some people was nonexistent, but this isn't a perfect world and it does exist. What we can do is call those people out and show others that there should be no contention between anyone, whether PHA or "mainstream". We are all Brothers...
We have a Brother in our Lodge that works on oil refineries and his schedule is such that he was gone for 6-8 weeks at a time. He made it through the degrees no problem. It was it took a bit longer for him to turn in his lectures. You won't have a problem and the Lodge will work with you. Good...
