Coach, I bow to your mastery of rhetorical satire! The response that I was preparing to Brother Bill's question is a humble apprentice's offering by comparison.
He is not a suitable candidate. This should be painfully obvious, not because he is Muslim, but because he believes in forcing his...
How is it that an entire Lodge of Master Masons so does not "get it" that they thought this was a good idea? What possible reasons, other than some which are decidedly un-Masonic, could they have for making such a proposal? Why has no one seen to their reformation?
These are not meant as...
So there is a grandfather clause. Like I said, kind of hard to imagine that a rule could be enacted that would result in a mass suspension of so many senior members.
Also, just so we're clear, I believe that this rule is a good one, for all the reasons Brother Stewart lists. Hence the statement...
Actually, most of the "I can't tell you that" answers are incorrect. Unless the GLoTX has rules that extend to ritual and other esoteric work, only the various modes of recognition are "secret".
Not that that's likely to make much difference if the church's deacons object. They will find...
Presumably, there was a grandfather clause that exempted our more... experienced Brethren from such a requirement. Yes? Even at that, I can't imagine the GL automatically kicking a dues paying member to the curb. I understand the reasoning, but it's just hard to believe that those reasons...
It is depressing, I grant you, but it is also an opportunity for understanding and, I suspect, teaching. I'd be quite keen to hear just why someone, and a Freemason in particular, would feel the need to discriminate so. I have my suspicions, but I'd genuinely like the hear it from the horses...
Excellent.
It's nice to know that, in this case at least, Masonic rules and regulations can't be used by some misguided brethren to exclude members of certain religions.
With respect, WB, I would disagree. The mastery of the "work" of each degree is but one of the first few tasks set before us. Likewise, the instructors who work with the candidate/Brother as he develops his proficiency are developing and refining skills as well. The act of committing something...
Why do you ask?
BTW, in general, "Muslims" don't wear turbans. They are not required to wear any particular headgear. Perhaps you were thinking of members of the Sikh faith?
