    Good books for the noobs

I'm on the very beginning of the path, and have read Freemasonry for Dummies. It was a great book as an overview, but does anyone have any recommendations to help someone who might be interested in joining and wants to get some good, non-crackpot information? Thanks! My Freemasonry

    Appendant Bodies

Has their been any effort to change this policy? Other threads talk about declining numbers in their Lodges, and I suspect that this might be a contributing factor... even just having the option is better than not having a choice. Anyways, thanks for all the info... just fascinating how many...

    Appendant Bodies

I guess the added Appendant degrees are what confuses the general public, thinking that there are higher and higher levels that confer deep, dark secrets of Freemasonry that tell of horrendous dark rites and worship of certain goat-like deities. But, really, if Masons can't even drink wine...

    Appendant Bodies

Sounds like the Shriners are the party dorm, so to speak, and the Scottish Rite are the scholars? Forgive my horrible analogies... Wait, you're not allowed to drink any alcohol during the meal at the Lodge? Not even wine? What the... I guess that makes sense on one hand, but I thought Lodge...

    Appendant Bodies

@crono782 Good analogy... thanks. I just assumed that the Scottish Rite added a bunch of mystical mumbo jumbo on top of the core Masonic values, and that's why to me it just seemed unnecessary and duplicative. But, if these appendant bodies build upon Masonry then it makes sense to branch out...

    Appendant Bodies

I guess I'm still fuzzy on the point of these appendant bodies, especially ones like the Scottish Rite where there is no "fun" involved like the Shriners. Why not just build up your Lodge to include such pursuits instead of creating these offshoots that siphon off funds and manpower? I'm not...

Are there any appendant bodies that are worldwide? My Freemasonry

    Appendant Bodies

Which ones are the most obscure? I'm amazed that there are a hundred... it's like a whole other world out there that is hidden in plain sight. My Freemasonry

    Appendant Bodies

As in... how many are there? Why do people join? Isn't being a Mason enough? My Freemasonry

    Creating a New Lodge

The Lodge that I would be petitioning has over 300 members, and while I have no plans on diverting course in search of a smaller Lodge, I think that smaller still seems better. My Freemasonry

    Creating a New Lodge

Just out of curiosity, can a Mason or Masons create their own Lodge if they want or is it a difficult process? Examples include being a member a large Lodge and wanting to create a smaller one, or being in an area with no Lodge at all. Thanks! My Freemasonry

Hidden Camera inside a Freemason Lodge

What are these people so scared of that they have to take the trouble to produce such an elaborate forgery of a Lodge meeting? I just don't understand the mindset of these zealots who cringe and lash out at anything that doesn't fall within their myopic little world. My Freemasonry HD

    Zombie craze--metaphor for?

My understanding of the appeal of going back to basics does not mean I wish for a zombie apocalypse to happen just so we can go back to basics. I'm just saying that I understand why it might appeal to folks who are drawn to this particular genre. Zombie hordes, or just go hiking to get away...

    Zombie craze--metaphor for?

My critique is merely that, and when I refer to "society" I simply mean our modern existence, not any particular country and/or culture. Even though a zombie apocalypse is not my top choice for escape, there is that appeal to going back to basics and depending on one another without having our...

    Zombie craze--metaphor for?

I think the Zombie craze is more a reaction to how isolated we are as a society --- constantly barraged by the media that the world is out to kill us, kept separated from other humans by the technology we can't separate ourselves from, and taught that we can trust no one so we avoid contact...

Hidden Camera inside a Freemason Lodge

Wow, a dance routine by a fully-clothed woman... that really rips the roof off of Masonry's evil practices. What's next? A video of Brothers eating veal after the meeting? My Freemasonry HD Pro

    Visiting Lodges

I recently visited a local Lodge on their Visitor's Night and enjoyed meeting everyone and getting a feel for things. The Lodge is gigantic and I'm just not sure if it would be better to be a member of a big Lodge or a smaller one. I'd like to visit other Lodges in the area to see whats out...

    Church Objection?

Has anyone had their church make an issue of your being a Freemason? I've been reading through some Presbyterian Church doctrine and it's saying that Freemasonry is not only a religion, but incompatible with the Christian faith! How is there a conflict? Masonry is supposed to be areligious...

    Getting a Mac

The gap has closed somewhat between PC and Mac in terms of ease of use, but in terms of reliability and overall quality, I'd probably steer towards Macs. They are just built better, in my opinion. I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro and it's been rock-solid for the four years I've owned it. It once...
